A Solution For Public Defenders
“The Corrections System is one of the most overlooked, misunderstood institutions we have in
our entire government … We have no interest in corrections. Nobody looks at it.”
- Justice Anthony Kennedy
Justice Kennedy has it right and we are all now challenged to do something about it. We
believe that Prisonology is part of the solution because we have been a part of a number of
successful outcomes through our approaches.
Understanding policies and strategies of the Bureau of Prisons can lead to better outcomes for
defendants when it comes to sentencing, designations, programs, security level, halfway
house and supervised release, to name a few. We at Prisonology are committed to giving
everyone involved in the federal criminal justice system the most complete information
available on the corrections system.
In a criminal case, the stakes are high for the defendant and for their family members. We
create strategies that lead to better outcomes for defendants and we do provide the service at
a reasonable fee. Experts, like ours, should not be reserved for private attorneys and the well-
heeled defendant, but for everyone.
With over 90% of federal cases being handled through Public Defenders or CJAs, we have
created a program that allows every defendant an opportunity to have access to an expert to
help them in their case strategy. We work with public defenders, investigators and paralegals
to develop unique strategies once a stay in federal prison is likely for a defendant.

Prisonology One gives Public Defender Offices access to educational software, experts, and
Continuing Legal Education with one monthly service fee.
Providing the user the most comprehensive guide on the federal corrections system,
Prisonology.com is a software that has over 90 minutes of educational video, 200 pages of
written narrative, Tips, Experiences and a complete reference library of government policies
all organized in an easy-to-navigate format. Every lawyer, paralegal and investigator will be
provided a login to access the Prisonology.com and to submit questions on-line to our
consultants. In addition, the software will be offered to any defendant or defendant’s family
for the price of $299/login (a 66% discount from the commercially available software). They
too can submit questions they may have.
The questions submitted through Prisonology.com to our experts will receive a response
within 24 hours. In addition, Prisonology will host a bi-weekly conference call for up to 2 hours
each to answer case questions related to post conviction matters, sentencing, sentence
mitigation, designation, security level, Bureau of Prisons Policies, etc. Prisonology will provide
timely estimates for additional services involving expert testimony or special case assistance.
As sample of our services are as follows:
Pre sentence Investigation Strategy and PSR Draft Review
Designation and Security Classification
Expert Testimony at Sentencing
Sentence Mitigation Analysis and Report
Every 12 months, Prisonology experts will provide a Full-day seminar on post conviction
issues, on site (travel related expenses will be approved and paid for by Public Defenders
Office in addition to providing the venue for training). The morning session will be on post
sentencing issues and the afternoon session will be an interactive training based on case
matters covered by the office during the year. We can also make ourselves available to meet
with defendants or their family members for an overview of the Bureau of Prisons.

At Prisonology, we approach each case based on the experience of a Case Manager who has read thousands
of Presentence Reports. We know the nuances of the policies that lead to better outcomes for defendants and
we work well with lawyers to develop strategies that have been proven to work for clients. When we evaluate a
case, we look at the person and then look at the policies that will best serve that person. Our goal is to achieve
the best outcome for anyone facing a term in federal prison.
We look forward to working with you and your team. Our pledge is to do our work in the most cost effective
manner but to provide expert insights that lead to better outcomes for people facing federal prison.
Jack Donson, Prisonology’s Senior VP of Operations,
discusses our Case Management approach.
When we developed Prisonology, I wanted to bring together
everything I learned over my 23 year career with the Bureau of
Prisons.1 I wanted it organized so that everyone could understand
the rules so that they understood their rights.
I witnessed far to many people who entered prison who were
under-served by well-intended attorneys who did not understand
the corrections system, and at the worst, were preyed upon by
consultants who were more interested in fees than outcome. We
wanted a solution that EVERYONE could afford, which is what the
justice system is about … everyone should have the same
information. Unfortunately, they do not.
Experts are called upon by Federal Defenders and Private Attorneys
alike. However, many experts are expensive, which poses a major
problem for Federal Defenders and CJAs who are often shy about
asking for experts due to the expense. Our solution was simple,
make information about the corrections system reliable and
affordable so that everyone could afford it.
A Word From Our Vice President of Operations
“Serious concerns exist about the
effectiveness of the system today and
its ability to ensure constitutionally
required representation for litigants
while preserving the independence
essential to the defense function."

then, he has been a dedicated servant to various advocacy groups
and helped hundreds of clients navigate the difficult road to prison.
