- against: people who acted unadapted to the
government [beyond the state‘s structure]
- contacts between East and West were
eliminated by forbidding leaving and entering
the other side, letters weren't sent and telephone
conversations were interrupted

4. Media censorship
- every kind of media was controlled by the
government → propaganda
- leadership position jobs were given to people
who were convinced of the ideology
- socialistic life was shown as perfect

5. StaSi
- Ministry for State Security
- Police of the German Democratic Republic
[GDR]
- headquartered in East Berlin
- Slogan: shield and sword of the party
- founded on 08.02.1950

6. - methods of persecution:
* guillotine
* shot to the neck
* high-dose radiation → cancer
→ the torture was too crude and obvious

7. → Stasi perfected the technique of
physiological harassment, known as
'Zersetzung'
→ Enemies lose their wills
→ incapable of acting
