Academy Spotlight - FAHS—Fine Arts, Human Services
Career Cluster News:
The Fine Arts & Human Services Academy, consisting
of career clusters in Education, Human Services, Per-
forming Arts, and AV/Communication, has been
lucky enough to have several community profession-
als visit with our students about the opportunities
they might have in careers related to those fields.
Over the course of the year, presentations have in-
cluded local teachers, former JCHS students major-
ing in these fields of study at local colleges and universities, the K-State Improv
Troupe, a representative from Job Corps, and K-State advisors and admissions repre-
sentatives, among others. In addition to these real-life experiences, students have
been working on the Kansas Career Pipeline to explore their interests and gain a bet-
ter idea of their own expectations of future employment. Our goal has always been to
engage students in practical, career-related activities with the intention of enhancing
their post-graduation options, and we hope to continue providing students with hands
-on learning experiences this spring.
Band News:
The Junction City High School Blue Jay Marching Band
has received a letter of invitation to participate in the
2012 Liberty Bowl Parade and Band Festival in Mem-
phis, Tennessee. The Blue Jay Marching Band will be
one of several high school bands from across the coun-
try to participate in these events. The parade travels down the famous Beale Street
in Memphis. One high school marching band will be selected to perform during the
Liberty Bowl pregame show.
Current plans have the JCHS Marching Band departing by bus on Thursday, December
27, 2012, and returning Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
It is indeed an honor for the Blue Jay Marching Band to be invited again to this pres-
tigious event. The JCHS band also participated in the 2000 Liberty Bowl events.

JC VOCAL News:
Our show choir just returned from a successful performance at the Singsation competi-
tion in Omaha, Nebraska. This was by far the strongest showing for our group to date!
Currently our vocalists are preparing for regional solo and small ensemble festival. This
event is to be held here at JCHS on Saturday, April 14th. All top-rated musicians will be
eligible to perform at Emporia State on April 28th in the state competition. Seniors are
busy preparing audition material for college auditions as we head into March, and Lady
Blues is busy getting steps and notes ready. Our concert and freshman choirs continue
to work hard with our new assistant director, Mr. Fritzler.
Here is what is coming up:
Our vocal department will be holding auditions for next year's ensembles in early April-
stay posted for exact dates. Our JC Singers tentative date is set for April 12th after
school. Packets pertaining to vocal auditions can be obtained in room 111 before
school, or directly after school in mid March. All upper ensembles require strict academ-
ic requirements and an amazing attitude! If you've got what it takes- join us!
Our Chamber Choir will head to state on Thursday, April 19th. This choir is our top en-
semble, and consists of 40 auditioned vocalists. Our Lady Blues, JC Singers, Concert
and Freshman choirs will all be performing in our spring concert, scheduled for Tues-
day, May 8th. Come out and support your singing Blue Jays!

http://intranet.usd475.org/school/jchs/Athletics/default.aspx
The Spring Sports Season is just around the corner.
First day of spring sports practice is February 27, 2012. Sports offered during the Spring are: Baseball, Boys Golf,
Girls Soccer, Softball, Girls Swimming, Boys Tennis, and B/G Track.
NECESSARY FORMS FOR STUDENT PARTICIPATION
Students attending Junction City High School will not be eligible to participate (games, practice, tryouts) in any sport without clear-
ance from the Athletic Department. A JCHS ATHLETIC PACKET MUST BE COMPLETED AND RETURNED BEFORE THE FIRST
DAY OF PRACTICE TO THE ATHLETIC OFFICE, ROOM 102 AT JCHS. When all paperwork is completed and turned in, the stu-
dent athlete will be entered on an eligibility list to be given to the coaches at the beginning of tryouts. An athlete must be on this list
to be allowed to practice/tryout/participate. Failure to have these forms on file with the Athletic Department may prevent the student
athlete from having the opportunity to participate in that sport.
*** The JCHS Athletic Packet may be obtained from the athletic department or by accessing the Athletic Department web-site at
http://intranet.usd475.org/school/jchs/Athletics/default.aspx

signed by the parent or legal guardian, stating the student has permission to participate.
The physical examination must be reported on forms provided by the KSHSAA and shall not be completed earlier than May 1 preced-
ing the school year for which it is applicable. The completed form must be filed with the building AD prior to the first practice session
in which the student participates.
Physical examination forms may be obtained from the school’s athletic department of which the student attends. You may also
obtain a copy of the physical examination form by accessing the KSHSAA web site at www.kshsaa.org
