Suicide Prevention programs available for Soldiers, Veterans: For those struggling with suicidal thoughts or for those who know someone who
is struggling, help is available through several different sources. The Veterans Crisis Line and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline are two
services that offer confidential support for those struggling with suicidal ideations. The Veterans Crisis Line, a service that connects veterans,
active-duty, Reserve and National Guard service members with trained individuals, has several options to connect, including a hotline, online
chat or text. Family and friends of military personnel can use these options as well to receive help for their loved ones. I’m really excited about
the text (option). I don’t want people to not call, but I want them to know it’s there,” said Amanda Dannar, suicide prevention program
manager, Army Substance Abuse Program, Directorate of Human Resources. “So, if people are having trouble saying it out loud and vocalizing
whatever their crisis is – be it suicide or something else – they can text.” Many of the trained responders also are veterans themselves, according
to the Veterans Crisis Line website. There is a good chance a suicidal person will talk to a responder who knows where they are coming from,
Dannar said. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline also offers options in connecting via a hotline and online chats, including a Facebook chat.
This option, however, is only available for people who have been reported as posting suicidal content to Facebook, according to the National
Suicide Prevention Lifeline website. Suicidal individuals need to connect with others to realize they are wanted and loved, said Chaplain (Maj.)

2. Michael McDonald, Garrison Family Life chaplain, Religious Support Office. “Very often, (suicidal individuals) feel a traumatic disconnection from
life and people,” McDonald said. “There’s a profound sense that the world would almost be a better place without them, and it’s simply not the
case at all.” Whether chatting online, texting or making the phone call, all responders are specially trained and experienced in assisting those
reaching out for help. The Veterans Crisis Line and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached by calling 1-800-273-TALK (8255). The
Veterans Crisis Line text feature can be utilized by texting 838255. For more information or online chat services, visit www.veteranscrisisline.net

6. EFMP Rodeo Needs Volunteers: Event: EFMP is seeking volunteers to assist with the set up, sign – in Registration table, assist with children
during special needs rodeo events and tear down.
What: Set Up: standing tents up, unloading equipment and materials.
Registration Table: Sign in, Photo release, and assisting children with t-shirt and cowboy hat
Rodeo event: if wish, assist with rodeo events.
Tear down and loading equipment and materials.
Where/When: Need Volunteers at the Junction City Rodeo arena, 1107 Spring Valley Road, Junction City, Kansas at 9:00am, 21 July 2012.

Firecracker One Pitch offers new take on softball: An upcoming softball tournament will speed up the game and offer participants a different
spin on the sport. The annual Firecracker One Pitch softball tournament is set for 8 a.m. July 7 at Sacco Softball Complex. Each at-bat will consist
of one pitch. “You go out there with a full count with no courtesy fouls,” said Renee Saterlee, intramural coordinator, Directorate of Family and
Morale, Welfare and Recreation. “You get one pitch and you either hit, walk or strikeout.” Saterlee said the tournament offers a unique
opportunity to play softball differently. “It’s fast paced and it’s fun,” she said. “A lot of it has to do with pitching. It’s just a different twist to your
normal softball game. Normally, the games last about half an hour.” The tournament has been very popular in past years, Saterlee said. “Last
year we had 24 teams, so I’m hoping to up that a little bit,” she said. The tournament format is double-elimination and members of the top three
finishing teams will be presented awards. Registration is due July 5. Active-duty teams have no registration fee, and Department of Defense

Ft Riley Funds Custodian Course is once again available online! Those wishing to complete the course online should first review the Funds
Custodian slide deck and then complete the quiz. Once the completed quiz is emailed back to ACS, a certificate of completion will be emailed
back to the client within 2-3 business days to the email address provided. Course can be accessed at

7. The Flint Hills Area Transportation Agency will offer rides to and from Manhattan to the Fort Riley and Junction City areas. The cost is $2 one-
way within a three-mile radius of Manhattan, Fort Riley and Junction City. Rides beyond the three-mile radius are $4 each way. For more
