1. Oasis – Live Forever
Textual Analysis
The live forever music video by Oasis is one that has influenced our
own music video, partly because it of the Britpop genre but in
particular through the editing of the colours within the video.
The sound of this video is obviously important, as the song is what
the video is an advertisement for. The song in the Live Forever video
has no meaning within the video as it does not follow any narrative
but Is simply a mixture of live performance and apparently random
scenes. This does not influence our video as we are aiming to mix live
performance with different narrative scenes in an attempt to reflect
the lyrics.
The camera work in this video is relatively standard for a music
video, consisting of many mid shots of the band members and close
ups for the lip syncing that is evident throughout the video. This use
of close ups of the band playing their instruments is something we
need to pay close attention to as we will be aiming to include many
close ups of the band playing as will be using lip syncing.
The mise en scene is another thing that is relatively inconsequential
to the actual song. It is set in a garden and what appears to be a run
down estate, both these things do not really have anything to do with
the lyrics of the song.
The editing of this video is the key thing that we can take to use for
own video. The main thing we can look to take is the changing of
colours throughout the video, we have planned to use this particular
editing tool and have completed a workshop on this. The changing of
colours is a good way to keep the audience focused on the video by
making it brighter and with the song being upbeat it links in with
song itself.
