don t see can hurt us!
 In Texas, about three of every 10 students from the freshman
class of 2006-07 left school prior to graduating - that is 3 out if
10 dropping out!
 Texas had the 4th highest teen pregnancy rate in the country
in 2005
 More than a third of adults earning less than $15,000 per year
are obese, compared with roughly a quarter of adults earning
$50,000 or more per year.
 In Dallas, according to statistics from the U.S. Health and
Human Resources Department, 36% of Dallas children and teens
are overweight or at risk for it.

2. What are the Implications?
We must use our BRAINS to create simple solutions.
We must use COURAGE to turn over the stones and
ask the questions in our communities and schools.
We must have the HEART to keep going and know
that the future depends on the education of our
children and their families.

What is Sustainability?
Sustainability is the capacity to endure.
For humans, sustainability is the long-
term maintenance of well being, which
has environmental, economic, and
social dimensions, and encompasses the
concept of stewardship, the responsible
management of resource use.

6. Based on the U.S. Census Bureau's
American Community Survey, in
2007
Children living in poverty in Texas
between the ages of 5- 17 numbered
4,649,991!
One out of four children in Texas live in
poverty. In the Dallas Independent School
District, the numbers are even more
staggering – 80 percent of students are
living in poverty.

7. What Can We Do?
Step on to the public, private and charter
school campuses to advocate sustainable
practices and relationships.
CREATE COMMON GROUND!
Right Now, Promise of Peace is
establishing a model for doing just that!
