5. NEIL ALBERICO - A RISING MOTORSPORTS STAR
A native of Los Gatos, California, Neil Alberico first started racing karts at the age of 10. Over the course of
four seasons (2004-07), Neil showed his formidable potential by capturing the Junior Sportsman, Junior Super
Sportsman, and Junior Puma championship titles in IKF region 11 action.
In 2008, Alberico first got behind the wheel of a race car, graduating from the Skip Barber 2-day Advanced school
at Laguna Seca prior to the Formula BMW recruitment day at Miller Motorsports Park. Continuing to race in the
karting ranks while raising funds to pursue a career in open-wheel racing, Alberico won the Snap-On Stars of
Karting Series National finale in Las Vegas in 2009, before finishing third in CKI National TAG Senior championship.
Neil built on this success in 2010, winning the TaG Senior class in the WSK North American Series, as well as the
Bondurant Championship Race Series, capturing 10 wins in first full season of formula car competition.

In 2011, Alberico made his European racing debut, competing in the world-renowned Formula Ford Championship
of Great Britain and earned a spot as a Team USA Scholarship finalist in that same year. As a Team USA driver, he
captured a Semi-Final win and finished third in the historic 40th Formula Ford Festival.
Alberico joined the Mazda Road to Indy program in 2012, earning a podium finish and nine top-fives in his rookie
season in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda. In 2013, Neil finished 2nd in the USF2000
Championship with 6 wins (most in the series), 8 podiums, and 10 top-5 finishes in 14 races driving for Cape
Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing. Alberico also claimed the USF2000 Winterfest title winning 5 of 6 races,
and joining two-time defending champion Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing.
For 2014, Neil took the next step up on the Mazda Road to Indy ladder by competing in the Pro Mazda Championship
Presented by Cooper Tires. He finished the season in a very impressive 3rd place overall with 6 top-5s in 14 races,
including three 2nd place finishes.
In 2015, Neil returned to the Pro Mazda Series, and despite missing pre-season testing and the Winter Series, he
took pole and won both races at the season opening Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. In total, Neil recorded 4 race
wins, 8 podiums, 2 poles, and 3 fastest race laps on his way to 2nd place in the championship.
Neil now sets his sights on the 2016 Indy Lights Series and hopes to take home that championship title and the
Mazdaspeed scholarship that assists the series champion with advancement to the Verizon IndyCar Series.

The Team USA Scholarship has been providing opportunities for talented young American race car drivers to display
their skills on the international stage since 1990. This includes funded drives and introductions to influential
figures within the sport who provide valuable insight and contacts to assist their progress up the racing “ladder.”
Past scholarship winners include Jimmy Vasser, Bryan Herta, Buddy Rice, Joey Hand, A.J. Allmendinger, J.R.
Hildebrand and Josef Newgarden.
In 2011 Neil Alberico was a recipient of the prestigious Team USA Scholarship. Against some of the best young
