In this presentation we will be comparing the WMF 5000S and the Jura Giga X8 G2. We've compared elements including drink capacity, milk systems and drink selections to name a few.

3. Drink Capacity
This is most relevant to businesses that expect to get a
lot of use out of their coffee machine, but at the same
time it’s good to know not to overdo the drink capacity
when choosing a coffee machine as a much higher
capacity than needed can bring the cost up
considerably.
Play it safe though and plan for the busiest days you
expect to have and bear in mind that the hourly and
daily drink capacities given by the manufacturers are
subject to specific cup sizes and quality settings which
might not apply to your machine, so allow for
variations.
4. WMF 5000s
Capable of an hourly output of 144
cappuccinos and 144 espressos per
hour with a recommended daily
output of up to 250 drinks and an
option to produce two drinks at
once, which may vary the total
hourly output.
The total hourly hot water output is
between 160 and 180 cups,
depending on drink size and power
supply.
Quick Stats
Cappuccino / hour = 144
Espresso / hour = 144
Drinks / day = 250
5. Jura Giga X8 G2
According to the spec sheet, it’s
capable of producing two
cappuccinos in 75 seconds and two
espressos in 53 seconds, but given
that you’ll be less likely to use the
dual drink feature each time, you can
expect the machine to produce
around 48 cappuccinos and 67
espressos hourly, which will vary
depending on different factors.
The recommended daily output is up
to 250 drinks.
Quick Stats
Cappuccino / hour = 48
Espresso / hour = 67
Drinks / day = 250
6. Milk Systems
Preparing a perfect dose of milk for your latte is an art
in itself and that’s why coffee machine manufacturers
invest a lot of time and effort into perfecting this
technology.
Gone are the days when people were satisfied with just
adding a splash of cold milk to their black coffee; with
coffee drinkers’ expectations higher than ever, here’s
how manufacturers are working on keeping up with
them.
7. WMF 5000S
The WMF 5000s comes with 2 levels of milk systems:
easy and dynamic milk. The machine is equipped
with the easy milk system by default, but can be
upgraded to the dynamic one as well at an additional
cost.
We won’t go into the science behind how milk
temperature, frothiness and even the size of milk
foam bubbles affect the taste and quality of the drink,
sufficient to say that the dynamic milk system is the
creme de la creme, offering 5 different foam settings
for the perfect consistency.
Ice latte drinkers aren’t left out either, as the dynamic
system handles cold milk and cold milk froth just as
well

8. Jura Giga X8 G2
Jura have developed their own fine
foam technology which aims to
produce milk foam of the highest
standard.
In addition to the preset milk
settings, you get a lot of freedom in
customising the milk that goes in
your coffee, from amount to up to 10
steps of milk and milk foam
temperature control.

9. Drink
Selections
Owning an automated coffee machine, especially in an
environment such as an office or a coffee shop, is all
about having the variety of selections to satisfy
everyone’s taste.
With more advanced models, this variety can go as far
as being able to create completely unique drinks, with
custom strength, temperature, water and milk amount
and even foam amount and temperature.
Don’t feel intimidated by the complexity of settings
though – most interfaces, particularly the ones that
benefit from a touch screen, are user friendly and even
if you don’t feel the need to adjust your drink’s
temperature, most models come with a generous
standard package of drink selections.
10. WMF 5000s
WMF’s dedication to creating unique
experiences is visible in the WMF 5000s’ drink
customisation options and selection interface.
Including the standard drinks, you can have
up to 96 programmable selections, which can
range from an extra strong espresso to a large,
double shot, extra hot milk and double foam
cappuccino (to avoid the long drink
descriptions, the machine also allows you to
simply call that ‘Jane’s drink’).
When programming more complex drinks
isn’t convenient, the machine can be set to
self-service mode which lets the user pick
their cup size, caffeine content and other drink
settings through a simple, step-by-step
process.
Another feature worth mentioning is the
extremely popular hot chocolate option,
which can be added at an additional cost.

11. Jura Giga X8 G2
The Jura enjoys a simple to use drink
selection interface and has a wealth of preset
speciality drinks ranging from the classics to
connoisseur favourites such as ristretto, caffé
barista and espresso macchiato, with an
option to fully customise up to 32 drink
selections.
If you’re more of a tea drinker there’s an
option for you as well as you can take
advantage of the hot water option (with
different temperature settings for black and
green tea) and even add your desired amount
of hot milk to create your perfect cup of tea.
Another useful feature is the pot of coffee
option which can make supplying everyone
with their much needed dose of caffeine
during a meeting that much easier – and
don’t think that you’re limited to black coffee
as you can get a perfect portion of hot milk as
well.

12. Cleaning and
Maintenance
Cleaning a coffee machine is just a fact of life but it
doesn’t have to be daunting – with many models, all it
takes is a cleaning tablet and a quick step-by-step guide
on the screen.
It is crucial though that this simple process is followed
regularly as nothing damages the quality of drinks –
and even the equipment itself – like neglecting the
cleanliness of a coffee machine.
Be sure to have your machine serviced as well as and
when the manufacturer recommends you to do it; as
sturdy and robust as they may be, it’s better to have a
professional engineer check for signs of wear and tear
and diagnose potential faults early on.
13. WMF 5000s
The WMF 5000s pretty much cleans itself –
the only thing you need to do is initiate the
cleaning process when prompted and insert
a cleaning tablet.
If you’re running a cleaning rota in your
workplace you can also check through the
cleaning history logged to see when the
machine was last cleaned, as well as see
when the next filter change is due.
The only part of the machine that has to be
cleaned manually is the foamer head which
only needs to be submerged in cleaning
fluid once a week (with dynamic milk you
can avoid having to do that thanks to the
Clean in Place function).

14. Jura Giga X8 G2
Jura’s cleaning process is fully automated
and can be initiated with the simple touch
of a button, giving you a TÜV-certified
standard of hygiene.
Even more so, the machine is designed to
prevent mess as much as possible as well,
with a monitored drip tray that is easily
removable even with just one hand and
dishwasher-proof as well.
The descaling operation is also integrated
into the standard cleaning process and the
maintenance status display lets you know
when the next filter change is due, among
other information such as last cleaning
date and number of drinks made.

15. Features and
Addons
Coffee machines, much like smartphones, each need to
stand out in their own way in order to leave their mark
in a competitive and ever-growing market.
Quality is a must but sometimes it can be the small
things that help someone decide between two models
that have already proven themselves as reliable makers
of good quality coffee.
Whether it’s a bigger touch screen or a modern-
looking, customisable drinks menu, here’s what makes
these models stand out.
16. WMF 5000s
The WMF 5000s enjoys a wide range of special features, the most obvious one
being the large touch display with different keyboard layouts that can be
customised by button arrangement, colours and backgrounds to suit your
organisation’s look and requirements. Also in the visual department, the
illuminated side panels are designed to flash when an action is required and the
screen can be used to display advertising while the drink is prepared. The timer
function to turn itself on or off at a suitable time and also activate or deactivate
certain functions or drinks, making it easier to switch between served and self-
service mode.

18. What are users saying?
Facts aside, the users are still the
most trusted source of reviews
and we wouldn’t consider any
coffee machine comparison valid
without the opinions of those to
use these machines daily.
Note: As the Jura Giga X8
Generation 2 model has only just
been released, we’ve used data
collected for the 1st Generation
model for the purpose of this
review. Stay posted for updates
on the new generation Giga X8’s
rating.
