This document summarizes biographies for several honorees being recognized at NJCRI's 2nd Annual Meet & Greet event. It provides background information on Lisa Mateo, a news reporter being honored; Dr. Robert Fullilove, an educator and HIV/AIDS activist; Dwight Peavy, the executive director of Newark EMA HIV Health Services Planning Council; and Gary Paul Wright, the founder of the African American Office of Gay Concerns. It also recognizes contributions from Henry Iwuala of Kintock Group, Bill Orr as the founder and executive director of NJCRI, client and volunteer Freddie Perry, nurse Ann Sheridan, and Dr. George Perez as NJCRI

2. NJCRI’s Mistress of Ceremony Lisa Mateo Features Reporter,PIX 11 Morning News From breaking news, to the hottest trends, Lisa brings the latest on what's happening around town. She was most recently nominated for a 2010 Emmy Award for Best Features Reporter. She is currently enrolled at Kean University in New Jersey working toward a BS in Meteorology and a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) Seal from The American Meteorological Society.

3. Dr. Robert Fullilove Author, Educator, HIV/AIDS Activist Associate Dean for Community and Minority Affairs, Professor of Clinical Sociomedical Sciences and the co-director of the Community Research Group. He also co-directs degree programs in Urbanism & Community Health in the Dept. of Sociomedical Sciences. He serves on the editorial boards of the journals Sexually Transmitted Diseases, & the Journal of Public Health Policy. Two time Distinguished Teaching Awardee.

4. Dwight Peavy Dwight Peavy is the Executive Director for Newark EMA HIV Health Services Planning Council. Dwight is an elected member with the INSIGHT / the National Community Programs for Clinical Research on AIDS (CPCRA), in New Jersey and in Washington D.C. He is a member of the Community Contingency Croup (CCG), associated with the CPCRA and serves as one of the two national science representatives. As a CCG member Dwight serves as a representative to the FORUM For Collaborative HIV Research in Washington D.C. Peavy is one of the founders of AAOGC Board of Trustee in Newark.

5. Gary Paul Wright Gary Paul Wright is the Founder and Executive Director of the African American Office of Gay Concerns, an agency started for the sole purpose of addressing the HIV/AIDS crisis that affect today’s Gay, Bisexual and other men of color who have sex with men. Through his efforts, Newark has seen its first social marketing campaign aimed at and featuring Gay Black Men and Transgenders for the Status Is Everything HIV Rapid Testing Project.

6. Kintock Group Henry Iwuala, is the director of the male treatment program at Kintock Group Inc. with responsibilities for program planning, administration, evaluation and supervision. He also serves as a member of the board of trustees at the North Jersey Community Research Initiative Inc. Prior to joining the Kintock Group, Henry worked as the Ryan White project manager for NJCRI and as the manager of addiction services at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, NJ.

7. Bill Orr Founder of NJCRI and Executive Director for over 20 years at NJCRI. Prior to NJCRI he worked for McGraw Hill where his positions included editor and sales manager. Bill has previously served on multiple committees throughout his career that ties to HIV care and Prevention. Bill is a visionary who continues to reach the lives of many in the healthcare field.

8. Freddie Perry NJCRI Client, Author , and Volunteer Throughout his life, Freddie has created a library, directed a literacy program, learned small engine repair all while being incarcerated for a total of 27 years. Freddie was one of NJCRI’s first clients and is consider a great success story. In addition to being a client, Freddie also volunteers at NJCRI as a groundskeeper. Freddie is currently writing a book about his life experience.

9. Ann Sheridan Since 1991 NJCRI has been lucky to have someone like Ann with such an amazing dedication to life. Ann has spent over half her life working in the AIDS arena. More than 27 years as a HIV nurse, with 19 years in HIV research as a clinical research nurse. Pushing papers is the last thing she would tell you she does for a living. Life is about your intent, your focus and the ability to feel good at any given moment. Ann knows these things are the keys to our wellness. That’s what she would share with you if you were her patient, client or friend.

10. George Perez Dr. George Perez, has been NJCRI’s Medical Director since 1989. Dr. Perez has been a devoted Physician to the fight against HIV and AIDS and his work with Infectious Diseases. NJCRI is only a small part of his work. His work expands to St Michaels Medical Center, UMDNJ Medical Center, Medical Professor and author.
