Meteor, or MeteorJS is an open-source real-time JavaScript web application framework written on top of Node.js. While production-ready and used by a number of high-profile startups, Meteor allows for very rapid prototyping and produces cross-platform (web, Android, iOS) code. It integrates tightly with MongoDB and uses the Distributed Data Protocol and a publishsubscribe pattern to automatically propagate data changes to clients in real-time without requiring the developer to write any synchronization code. On the client, Meteor depends on jQuery and can be used with any JavaScript UI widget library.

5 of the most dangerous words you'll hear a developer say are "How hard could it be?". This talk tells the tale of what happens when you act on the question of "I'm going to write the next Google beater. How hard could it be?" This is the tale of how one person in a few hours is able to write something resembling a search engine thanks to the platform features of Azure and the productivity of F#. We'll see how we're able to use Azure search from F# to easily power our search internals, we'll use MBrace to rapidly find the most popular web pages on the internet and Azure functions to tie everything together to build up APIs and create on demand infrastructure. Add in a healthy mix of queues provided by Azure Service Bus and if you squint hard enough, you might just end up seeing something resembling a search engine. But seriously writing the next Google, just how hard could it be? As CTO of a rapid growth FinTech one of my biggest challenges is rebuilding the platform to scale elastically plus still allowing for the rapid development and integration of core platform functionality. Even for fast prototyping and design Openresty allows for the quick integration for mobile and web services that can integrate with almost any database or stateless program logic allowing for faster than normal deployment and event geo based load balancing. Utilising NGINX ill show some of the ways i am overcoming some of the challenges by building a developer focused api platform that will allow the quick and easy deployment of new services while still maintaining the functionality needed by modern REST API design techniques. Also we will be looking at some of the additional functionality available to the Openresty suite including Machine Learning (which can be used for API error handling), QR code handling and API tempting and authentication. http://au.apidays.io/abstracts.html#2747a1f1

Networking and security management, based on firewall policy configuration operation, has historically been very difficult because of the high complexity of networks, and the diversity of the different firewall vendors. Thus, while DevOps are performing agile server configuration management, the firewall rules that define the application connectivity are still managed in the old-school way, introducing a bottleneck into the software and infrastructure delivery pipeline. In this talk, we'll show how to abstract, describe and attach the application connectivity description (policies) to the infrastructure specification as high-level intents into a multi-vendor and multi-technology network (in-premise, cloud-based, PaaS-based, etc.) ensuring continuous compliance and that all potential problems are detected before the policies are provisioned into the infrastructure.
