2. Don’t wait for everything to be perfect…
Go for it now!
The internet, e-commerce, retail… it’s all dynamic and very social. Release your
ideas, products, websites, new logo… on the world. Get the word out there, get
people talking about you, get into the conversation, market and advertise what
you do have ready. Don’t wait.. Go for it now!
3. What is DIY design?
Design is the ‘art’ that people use. From the house you live in to the clothes
you wear, to the magazines you read, every human-made object has been
designed. Graphic design is a particular area of design practice.
Do it yourself (DIY) is a term used to describe designing, building, modifying,
or repairing of something without the aid of experts or professionals. There are
lots of options available online!
4. Why DIY design?
• To save money
• To save time
• To customize goods to suit your exact needs and interests
• To feel less dependent on the professionals
• Also to make a good brief for professionals
• For pleasure that comes from developing an idea, making it visually real, and
sharing it with other people.
5. What are the
Disadvantages?
• You are on your own in terms of creativity!
• The DIY softwares and websites are user friendly, but you still need some
kind of guidance....like this workshop!
• DIY design may not be your final design, maybe just a start, so sooner or later
you have to get professional help.
6. DIY logo design
As a business owner, it’s important to understand that your logo is your
customer’s first real impression of who you are. Be sure to have a logo
that represents the essence of your company, the approachability of who
you are and a general concept of what you do.
7. Types of
logos:
1. Typographic logos:
Mostly, a Typographic logo is used to advertise the brand name of an organization.
But, to use this kind of logo, your company name should be short as well as
meaningful. In many cases, the designer will alter a typeface to fit the look the
company wants or they may combine typefaces to create another feeling.
For example the FedEx logo strategically altered the typeface to create a forward
moving arrow between the E and x.
8. 2. Lock-up logos (or Marks):
These are logotypes that use a
combination of a graphic (be it an
image or some other graphic) and
the typographic representation of
the company.
They are recognized both as a lock-up and separately by each individual piece.
When a brand with a lock-up logo becomes successful, they can easily use just their
image without NEEDING the adjoining type spelling out the name.
… but because of their
wonderful marketing and
recognizable graphic,
you also understand this
to be the same company

32. Types of Websites
Flash based websites
“Flash” is a webpage coding application that gives sites a slick, dynamic look and,
typically, a seamless user experience. They typically contain all information on one
URL address (the company’s homepage) or in a pop-up window after the
homepage has loaded.
HTML websites
“HTML” is the original webpage programming language developed by Tim Berners-
Lee (the REAL inventor of the Internet) in the 1980′s that is still the backbone of most
content on the web today. Its defining characteristics are what’s called “aliased” text
(the kind you’re reading right now–hard edged letters with no blending), fast
download speed, and, compared to flash, a more serial user experience that involves
clicking links to get from page to page.
