DIVISIBILITY RULES
BY FIONA MARGE
DEFINITIONS
• Divisibility Rules: The method you follow to
determine if a number is divisible by another.
• Divisible: When you divide a number with another
and get no remainder.
1
• All numbers are divisible by 1.
2
• The last digit of the number needs to be even.
Example:
48: Last digit is even so it is divisible by 2.
3
• The sum of all digits should be a multiple of 3.
Example:
243: 2+4+3=9 (3x3=9) so it is divisible by 3.
4
• The last two digits of the number need to be a
multiple of 4.
Example:
224: (4x6=24) so it is divisible by 4.
5
• The last digit needs to end with either a 5 or 0.
Example:
225: Ends with 5, so it is divisible by 5.
6
• The number needs to be divisible by 2 and 3.
Example:
222: Divisible by 2
2+2+2=6 Divisible by 3
So it is divisible by 6.
7
• You need to divide the number by 7.
Example:
28 divided by 7=4 r0
It is divisible by 7.
8
• You need to divide the number by 8.
Example:
24 divided by 8=3
It is divisible by 8.
9
• The sum of all the digits must be a multiple of 9.
Example:
3213: 3+2+1+3=9
It is divisible by 9.
10
• The number must end with a 0.
Example:
280: It is divisible by 10.
THE END!
I hope this PowerPoint helped you and it will be
posted on Moodle. 
