• Q3 – interpret using PEE+
• Q4 – language PEE+ (words from sheet)
• Q5 – compare presentation PEE+ (words from sheet)
Writing

  sentences)
• Q7 – argue, persuade (persuasive devices, paragraphs
  and sentences)
This is what you are going to do now
Reading
• Q1 – retrieve info Why?
• Q2 – understand using PEE+ They have the most
• Q3 – interpret using PEE+ marks in Section A
• Q4 – language PEE+ (sheet)
• Q5 – compare presentation PEE+ (sheet)
Writing
• Q6 – inform, advise, describe (paragraphs and
  sentences)
• Q7 – argue, persuade (paragraphs and sentences)
Q4
• Using the lilac sheet, select some of the words
  in the first box.
• Cross/black out out any you don’t know.
• Have about four or five you know you’re going
to be able to use in the exam
• Now find these in the text and underline them
  in the text.
For example...
My little plan that I would use in the exam.
(Task – question about language to inform/advise)
• Rhetorical question.
Must remember to use PEE+

So...
An example. Taken
                                            from
                                           WHAT box
The use of a rhetorical question shows the
reader that the article is going to be
  advice. Quote
‘Fancy being a presenter, an actor, a from text
writer or making monsters for Dr
  Who?’
This directly involves the reader because
it makes you think about the question Taken
and answer it. Because it uses lots of from
different jobs in TV like ‘actor, writer’ WHY
etc. it will inform you about a lot of box
  different things.
Now write your own answer to Q4
What you need to do to do well
• Have a word from the ‘What’ box
• Have a quotation from the text
• Have a phrase from the ‘Why’ box
• Make more than one point about your
  quotation
                 Exam skill: Timing.
Answer this in under 15 minutes
Q5 - Is about presentation

It asks you to compare presentation.

  What does presentation mean?
Q5 - Is about presentation

Presentation is about
  – Layout
  – Headlines
  – Slogans
                           These are often
  – Text boxes different because of
  – Bullet points the purpose. Use the
  – Colours word purpose in
  – Images etc this question
Q5
• Using the green sheet, select some of the
words in the first what box.
• Cross/black out out any you don’t know.
• Have about four or five you know you’re going
to be able to use in the exam
• Now find these in the texts and compare.
• Why are they different?

                                purpose
An example. Taken
                                                    from
The use of different images shows the reader WHAT box
that they are about different things and they
  have a different purpose. Quote
Source 1 has a dramatic image of monsters to from text
  show the special effects job.
This has a sudden impact as the images are
unusual. This is very different to Source 3
which show a male dancer. This isn’t as
dramatic, but is more striking as it is on its Taken
own, as it is to advertise a dance company from
and Source 1 is to inform and advise the
                                                    WHY
  reader.
                                                     box
Now write your own answer to Q5
What do you need to do to do well
• Have a word/phrase from the ‘What’ box
• Have a quotation from the text
• Have a phrase from the ‘Why’ box
• Make more than one point about your image
• Compare – why are they different

                       Exam skill: Timing.
Answer this in under 15 minutes
