The prime objective of ISRO is to develop space technology
and its application to various national tasks. The Indian space
programme was driven by the vision of Dr Vikram Sarabhai
considered the father of Indian Space Programme.

the early 1970s by Indian Space Research Organisation to

India has launched 73 Indian satellites
(as of 5 January 2014) of many types since its
first attempt in 1975.
9. ARYABHATA
India's first satellite, the Aryabhata was launched by the
Soviet Union on 19 April 1975 from Kapustin Yar using a
Cosmos-3Mlaunch vehicle.
