2. Use, Develop & Challenge: Front Cover
Use:
The header takes up the top section of
the front cover.
Puff just below the header
I have used the convention of having
the numbered issue of the magazine on
the front cover.
I have used the convention of black
background with red text and hints of
blue.
Puff
3. Develop:
I have developed the design for the
header, both take up the upper section
of the front cover.
Other than that I have basically made
the magazine my own.
Actual magazines wouldn’t just have
one image on the front cover.
It is normally a larger image in the
middle surrounded by smaller images.
4. Challenge:
With my magazine taglines are
everywhere.
On a real magazine taglines are
usually in a row down one side.
I decided to do something different
because otherwise the magazine
wouldn’t stand out and would just be
the same as all the other magazines.
Actual magazines wouldn’t just have
one image on the front cover.
It is normally a larger image in the
middle surrounded by smaller images.
My magazine uses slang ‘Merch’.
This defies conventions because
magazines usually have full sentences
even if it is a magazine for kids.
I did this so readers would know
That this magazine is up to date with
all the slang not just to act cool but to
know that the magazine is knowing of
what people like.
5. Use, Develop & Challenge: Contents
Page
Use:
I used the convention of having
an editors note.
I have used the convention of
having the word(s) Contents
(Page).
I have used the convention of
having the main article of the
magazine having the biggest
space on the contents page.
I have used the convention of
keeping the house style from
the front cover in the contents
page.

6. Develop:
I have developed the convention of
having other stories of the magazine in
columns down the side of the page.
I have developed the idea of having a
subheading to point out other stories.

7. Challenge
One convention I have challenged is
repeating the logo of the magazine on
the contents page.
I have challenged the convention of
having a competition advertised on the
contents page.
I have done something different on the
contents page by writing down if a story
was on the cover or not.
8. Use, Develop & Challenge: Double Page
Spread
Use:
I have used the convention of keeping the house style from other pages of the magazine
I have used the convention of having the image in the centre of the page with the article around it.
9. Develop:
I have developed the convention of keeping the black background.
When a magazine has an image on a double page spread there is usually a background .
I have not put a background on the image so the final product has a smooth finish.
10. Challenge:
I have challenged the convention of always having the artist/group facing the camera.
The image on my magazine looks like the band have just noticed the camera.
I have challenged the convention of an article by putting in thumbnails.
Normally it would just have the artist/band members name and you are expected to know who is who.
I have challenged the convention of having images move the text.
As you can see on the left where there is an image the text has moved to fit the picture.
On my double page spread I have allowed the text to overlap the picture.
I have challenged conventions by having the text in boxes, usually articles are in large paragraphs and are not split into
boxes. I defy this by doing the exact opposite apart from the start which is a large paragraph. (Small paragraphs put
together.
12. Magazine Distribution
Bauer Media Group:
Bauer Media are known for the distribution of several different music media.
Examples: Planet Rock, 4Music, Kerrang!, Magic, Kiss, Mojo, Rock FM etc.
Bauer Media would probably produce my magazine because they produce for
different genres of music.
Although my magazine is so much like Kerrang!, it is also completely different.
Both magazines have a similar style.
My magazine however will always have a new band on the front (in the sense
of an unknown band)
13. Who is the Audience?
The audience for my magazine is anyone above the age of
14.
This is because some of the stories featured in the
magazine are of a mature nature.
The reason the magazine doesn’t have a age limit is
because I don’t just want the magazine to have a limited
audience. It is also dependant on what the stories are
about that determines the audience.
14. Attracting/Addressing the Audience
Address:
To address the audience, competitions were put in
so the audience would read them and hopefully
participate.
Attract:
To attract an audience of all ages I put in stories
about rock music celebrities from the past.
15. Learning from Technologies
I have learnt so much from using different types of
technologies.
I didn’t know that Photoshop had so many uses.
Cropping, Lassoing, Putting several images together.
When using all of these effects correctly together it helps to
make a really good piece of work.
