- 11. Here are some of the countless remarks that we found online:
- 34. Even if we all liked team building exercises, and all team building exercises were effective…
- 36. Though your colleagues are physically united by your organization, they are mentally divided by things that those who sell team building exercises fail to address.
- 37. Things whose effect is more detrimental to the success of your organization than whatever problems that team building is said to solve!
- 41. Without language, a “team” is merely a group of people who just happen to be near each other.
- 43. Language is by far the most important tool to any group of people who are working together in pursuit of a common goal.
- 45. Yet, most people are ignorant of language’s shortcomings.
- 46. Because of that, a word or statement sometimes means different things to different people.
- 50. Believe it or not, your colleagues’ ignorance of language’s shortcomings might or might have cost your organization some of its customers, both current or then-current and prospective or then-prospective customers.
- 52. Nationality has divided your team into “Nigerians,” “Indians,” “Americans,” etc.

- 54. Inevitably, that has led to the “us-and-them” mentality amongst your colleagues, people who are supposedly united!
- 56. The monetary system has divided your team into: “the rich,” “the middle class,” “the poor,” et cetera.

- 58. Because of that, some of your colleagues are not in the same social class, even though they work for the very same organization.
- 59. Inevitably, that has led to the “us-and-them” mentality amongst your colleagues, people who are supposedly united!

- 61. What’s more, most of your colleagues secretly see some of your colleagues as competitors! (For a position, via promotion, which they seek primarily for its monetary rewards.)

- 65. Religion has divided your team into “believers” and “nonbelievers.”

- 75. Culture is so powerful that it usually dictates what one feels or sees when one looks at someone or something.
- 76. — The Okay Sign — Show it to your colleagues, and those who are from, say, America, will interpret it as, “That’s great” or “Everything is good.” However, your colleagues from, say, (some regions of) Germany, will each interpret it as, “Asshole!” or “You’re an asshole!”

- 80. Your colleagues cannot sincerely tolerate each other … unless they are acquainted with how one’s culture shapes one’s worldview, beliefs, behaviour, taste, etc.

- 83. Yet, you have decided to spend, or are considering spending, your organization’s hard-earned money on team building … as if whatever problems that team building is said to solve are the most serious threat to the success of your organization!
