Almost half of IELTS candidates with good English do self IELTS preparation by going for
online help or take recommended IELTS books. On the other hand, student who do not have
competency in English go for self-preparation, which does not help them at all.
If your desired score is more than 6 Band, it is recommended to take expert help from IELTS
instructor in reading and writing module. As books or online websites cannot check your writing
or mark your weak areas in speaking. Writing module requires frequent checks in order to
identify and improve your mistakes, in the similar way, you need to do much conversation in
order to give your teacher a chance to point your problems so that he can give you solutions
accordingly. Many students try to save course fee but when they have to repeat it 3 to 4 times
why not paying some about and save your time, money and energy.
I would suggest candidates with good English to go for self preparation with following
suggestion. Take Cambridge book series from 5-9 where each book has 4 tests. Each test has
then listening, reading, writing and speaking which should be practiced on daily basis
completing book 5 in 4 days. Once one book with 4 tests in 4 days is completed, candidate can
get an idea what test is exactly about , means how to read instructions, answer questions and get
on with time management. All together it is gonna take 20 days to complete Cambridge book 5
to 9 by doing one test each day. Once you complete all books see what is average correct
answers in reading and listening if you are getting more than your desired band , you may
proceed appearing for exam, if not then find expert help from one of a good IELTS teacher.
Other than Cambridge books, there are hundreds of books in the market and online but they do
not carry IELTS exam standards, for example, in listening, when they give you some time to
read instruction or check your answers may vary, Similarly, it is the case in reading, writing and
speaking.
I have published a CD with the name of IELTSExpert library which contains all Cambridge
books with audio and further hundreds of books in pdf format with audios. It contains hundreds
of reading , writing, listening and speaking tests for academic and general training tests which
candidates can not finish in ages. This CD is available in Aisha Bawany Academy where we
offer IELTS preparatory classes mainly, you may also find same published CD in Rainbow
center from a shop with name of “Karachi CD” on the first floor. When you visit there Ask them
to give you IELTSExpert CD by Sir Alam. The cost of this CD is Pakistani 50 rupees.
So finally i would suggest all of you to go for expereinced IELTS tutor, website or notes rather
than many which may lead to confusion. I have seen students going for so much practice from
different sites which doesn’t help them at all in improvement.
