War between the republic of Korea and the
Democratic Peoples’ Republic of Korea. North
Korea ( Republic of Korea) invaded South Korea
( Democratic Peoples’ Republic of Korea)on June
25, 1950. The war started at Korea’s 38th parallel,
which divided North and South Korea. North Korea
pushed South Korea into a corner very quickly,
until UN intervention, which pushed North Korea
past the 38th parallel. Eventually North Korea will
push again to the 38th parallel. A cease re is
signed and the war is signed and the war remains
at a standstill.

The Eisenhower Doctrine declared
that a country could request
American economic aid or aid from
U.S. military forces if it was being
threatened by another state. This was
made in because of the possibility of
a war, threatened as the Soviet Union
increases in power.

Robotic spacecraft missions launched by the Soviet
Union. The Sputnik program was a series of robotic
spacecraft missions launched by the Soviet Union. The
rst of these, Sputnik 1, launched the rst human-made
object to orbit the Earth. USSR beat us to sending an
object into the sky. USSR has capacity to send their
nuclear weapons further than we thought.

Australia, New Zealand, and United States
Security Treaty. The Australia, New

(ANZUS or ANZUS Treaty) is the military
alliance which binds Australia and New
Zealand and, separately, Australia and the
United States to cooperate on defense
matters in the Paci c Ocean area, though
today the treaty is understood to relate to
attacks in any area.

Southeast Asia Treaty Organization. The
Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO)
was an international organization for collective
defense which was signed on September 8,
1954. The formal institution of SEATO was
established at a meeting of treaty partners in
Bangkok in February 1955. It was primarily
created to block further communist gains in
Southeast Asia. The organization's
headquarters were located in Bangkok,
Thailand. SEATO was dissolved on June 30,
1977.

caused a great deterioration in the US-Soviet
Union relationship. Could take photos of Soviet

summit is abandoned. Cold war attitudes
hardened again. Khrushchev showed the world
he could be tough.

A concrete barrier built by the German
Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany)
that completely enclosed the city of West
Berlin. It was built in 1961. It was built
because of all the people and money that
were traveling from East Berlin to West
Berlin.

War between South Vietnam and North
Vietnam. The US joined this war as a part of
the “containment” effort. In the end, after
numerous protests back at home and the
needless loss of men, the US pulls out and
the communist are the victors.
