Learning Styles Assignment #1: VARK
Refresher - VARK is a questionnaire that provides users with a profile of their learning
preferences. These preferences are about the ways that they want to take-in and give-out
information. Here is my assignment.

   1. My VARK results are:
      - Visual: 9
      - Aural: 12
      - Read/Write: 10
      - Kinesthetic: 11

You have a multimodal (VARK) learning preference.

   2. What are your two highest VARK scores?
      - My two highest scores are; Aural (12) and Kinesthetic (11).

   3. What are your two lowest VARK scores?
      - My two lowest scores are; Read/Write (10) and Visual (9).

   4. A) Taking in information. (Visual and Kinesthetic)
      - Whentaking ininformation, I prefer to work with my hands and visualizing things. I
think I learn better and faster when applying this method to my study style. Also, it
helps me understand how things work and how will affect my learning ability.
Everyone has a different strategy when it comes to take in information.
However, when I visualize and use my hands allows my brain and memory to retain
and recover more information. I learn a lot by using these two methods.

      B) Using information for effective learning. (Kinesthetic)

      - To obtain or create an effective learning it requires "Kinesthetic". Using our five senses
can help us do a better job. When we mix our senses with our studies, our career and
daily life we can understand and develop better ideas than other people. It is opening to
      other perspectives and possibilities.
C) Communicating more effectively. (Aural)
       - Aural is perfect to communicate effectively with others. Who can communicate without
listening or hearing to the person with whom you’re talking to? This is why in order to
communicate we must learn to listen to others because; this way we can achieve better
       understanding to others.

       D) Performing well in tests and examinations. (Read/Writing)
-To perform well in tests and examinations,I prefer to work through reading and writing.
In my opinion, re-reading and taking notes help us understand better what we are
working or studying on. It also helps us to memorize what we need to know for this task.
Moreover, it gives us the chances to develop a better performance while taking it and
your final grade will be outstanding. It is a great method to retain, memorize and
understand the information that we are working on.

 Learning Style Assignment #2: Myers/Briggs

                                      INFJ

   22% 44%

     - Child Care / Early Childhood Development

Learning Styles Assignment #2: Myers/Briggs (Continue)
  a. Do you agree or disagree with the results? Why or why not?
     - I do agree with the results because, I want to become a Social Worker. I know it is an
excellent choice for me according to my personality. Also, it is very accurate since
my other options are Psychologists or Photographer. However, all of them are really
        great choices for me.

  b. Do these careers match the careers you have chosen for yourself?
     - Yes, they do.

  c. If no, will you change your career choice?
     - No, I won’t change them.

  d. What can you do with this information?
     - As we all know, choosing a career isn’t easy. We have to go for the ones we are good
at, the ones closes to our personality and one that we feel comfortable and like doing.
Is not just about how much money you will earn but, how much you love what you
are doing. This information is very useful and I know it will help me later on in
choosing a career that go best with my out standing’s.
Learning Style Assignment #3: True Colors
  1. What is your dominant color? (Highest Score)
     - My dominant color is Blue (15).

                                  True Colors
                  20

                  15 Blue
                  10 Green
                    5 Orange

                    0 Gold
                         Blue Green Orange Gold

  2. A). Plan a trip to Europe.
     - Color: Orange
I will call some friends and invite them to accompany me in this wonderful trip. Choose
some amazing and creative places to visit. Also, make sure every day is something
different and fill with fun and adventures. Later, pack my favorite clothes. Moreover, go
to the airport and buy the tickets for our trip. Finally, be ready to have some fun.

B). Diffuse an argument at work with an irritate co-worker.
     - Color: Green
I will sit and listen to my co-worker and analyze his/her point of view. I will try to find a
solution to our problem; I really don’t like to argue. I will explain him/her that when
working with others we need to put away our differences and try to control our attitude
and emotions. After this, I will return to my work as usual.

C). Communicate with a supervisor, whose ethnicity is different from yours, to solve
     a scheduling problem.
     - Color: Gold
Using the Gold characteristics, I will communicate with him and explain why I won’t be
able to make it that day. As he knows, I am never absent; it has to be a very BIG
emergency or problem for me to do so. However, as always I will email or call him to
make up the work and give it or send it to him so I can start the next day fresh.
Section 3

1. Emotion: Discomfort

Typical Situation: You walk into a class for the first time and the professor seems
uninterested to teach or uninteresting in general. You suddenly get worried that you will
not enjoy this class and you have to have it for your degree.

My experience in this situation: In my opinion, maybe the professor didn’t feel well
that day or maybe has a lot of problems going on in his/her mind. However, there are
plenty reasons why he or she were acting like this that specific day. Anyways, if they
keep doing this I think it is better just to change the class with a different professor since
this class is part of my degree. Other thing I could do is to study by myself or find a
partner that will be interested in having a good grade in this class.

The lesson to be learned: Like I said before, if you feel unsecured or uncomfortable just
change classes with a different professor. Also, next time you can talk with your advisor
an ask him/her to recommend excellent academic professor that are willing to teach their
students. Like this you know you will learn something productive from this class.

2. Emotion: Anxiety/Fear

Typical Situation: You walk into a class where the professor explains everything that
you are going to do this semester. He talks about a 15-page research paper, field studies,
and weekly journals. You don’t even have access to a computer.

Your experience in this situation: This is something that could happen almost too every
freshmen college student. It did happen to me! However, in this situation is normal if you
get worry. Computers, now days, are the central tool of learning. In other words, it is very
useful when it deals with learning and college assignment because; most of our work is
   due typed.

The lesson to be learned:I know it will be hard for a student do all his/her work without
a computer. However, college and libraries offer a lot of resources that can help us when
we find ourselves in situations like this. Don’t use the excuse that “I don’t have a
computer” because, there are labs that are open the whole day and provides computer and
internet for you to do, finish and turn in your work. Also, talk to your professor and let
them now, I am sure they will understand and help you out in whatever you might need.
3. Emotion: Excitement

Typical Situation: You find out that you won a scholarship that will pay for books,
tuition, and fees when you transfer to a four-year university next semester. You can’t wait
to share the good news with your family because; they were having a hard time helping
and supporting you while you were in college.

Your experience in this situation:To be honest, having an experience like this one will
be awesome. I will start jumping around, screaming and showing everyone how happy
and bless I am. Yes, I will be blessed. Also, promise myself to keep on studying hard and
always do my best to keep such blessing (scholarship).

The lesson to be learned:Having and creating a career is not easy at all. It requires hard
work, time and dedication to what you are about to achieve. But, one of the things that
make college an impossible dream for many is “economical situation”. Having the
opportunity of earning a scholarship that will pay for everything, in other words; your
dream is a blessing. This is why I said; “I am blessed”. Many people won’t get or
understand this but, God was the one that made it possible, He was the one that saw and
know your needs. Having a blessing like this one, I know I will appreciate it.

4. Emotion: Joy

Typical Situation: You have taken your last final exam and will be graduating next week
in front of your family, friends, co-workers and a few people who thought you wouldn’t
make it. You have a job ready and waiting for you in your field of study. While the pay
may not be high, it offers great opportunities for advancement. Your two children are
proud to tell everyone that their mom has a college degree, and you know that they will
be more likely to attend college because you did.

Your experience in this situation:I will be extremely happy for three reasons: I finally
finished college and I know I did an excellent job. I have my family next to me in one of
the most important days of my life and I know I am doing the right thing by showing my
kids an excellent example to always work hard, achieve everything they want in life, to
have dreams and make them come true, etc. Finally, having the people that thought I
wouldn’t make it and see their reaction on their faces when I walk out with my Degree
and an awesome job the next day will be funny and hilarious. It will be a moment to
   remember.
The lesson to be learned: Ignore and block the negativity around you because, it will
always be there to destroy and stop you from achieving the best in life. Surround yourself
with the beauty that life and God create and give you. For example, people that have the
same perspective, the same desire and passion for achieving and doing something
productive in and with their lives. Always be yourself no matter where you are because,
being yourself will take you higher than what you can imagine. Now I will leave you
with some quotes: “It is better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you are
not”, “Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself”, “Don’t tell me the
sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon”. Finally, “If you don’t stand for
something; you will fall for nothing”, so make sure you stand for what you believe and
love in life.

Gonzalez Section 1: I promisethat fromnow, I will makethe impossible toachieveall thegoals Ihave outlinedand see allmy dreams fulfill. As many know, this road is noteasyand to elicitwhat this roadofferswe have tofill us withstrength andwisdom. This is not about havinga simplecareer, but to have a careerwherewe can feelready to achievemore thanwhat we have achievedin life. This requiresa mindwilling to learn, opento new possibilities anda heart full ofpassionand love forwhat we will bestudying.Like Ialwayssay, "Life isjustoneopportunitywe have"and ison us tomake the best ofit.Life is fullofmany opportunities andmanyof themwill openorclose the doorin our face.Remainalwaysyourself, never changeandgive yourselfa reason to keepmoving forward. "Do notgo wherethepathmaylead, goinsteadwhere thereisno pathandleave atrail". Let youractionsmake peopleseewho you are, make them knowwhat you do."Ifwedon’t change, wedon’tgrow. “Ifwedon’tgrow, we aren’treallyliving", so take the opportunityto experiencewhat the worldhas in store foryou.I amready to receivewhatever it have for me but,are youready?
  • 2. Section 2: Learning Styles Assignment #1: VARK Refresher - VARK is a questionnaire that provides users with a profile of their learning preferences. These preferences are about the ways that they want to take-in and give-out information. Here is my assignment. 1. My VARK results are: - Visual: 9 - Aural: 12 - Read/Write: 10 - Kinesthetic: 11 You have a multimodal (VARK) learning preference. 2. What are your two highest VARK scores? - My two highest scores are; Aural (12) and Kinesthetic (11). 3. What are your two lowest VARK scores? - My two lowest scores are; Read/Write (10) and Visual (9). 4. A) Taking in information. (Visual and Kinesthetic) - Whentaking ininformation, I prefer to work with my hands and visualizing things. I think I learn better and faster when applying this method to my study style. Also, it helps me understand how things work and how will affect my learning ability. Everyone has a different strategy when it comes to take in information. However, when I visualize and use my hands allows my brain and memory to retain and recover more information. I learn a lot by using these two methods. B) Using information for effective learning. (Kinesthetic) - To obtain or create an effective learning it requires "Kinesthetic". Using our five senses can help us do a better job. When we mix our senses with our studies, our career and daily life we can understand and develop better ideas than other people. It is opening to other perspectives and possibilities.
  • 3. C) Communicating more effectively. (Aural) - Aural is perfect to communicate effectively with others. Who can communicate without listening or hearing to the person with whom you’re talking to? This is why in order to communicate we must learn to listen to others because; this way we can achieve better understanding to others. D) Performing well in tests and examinations. (Read/Writing) -To perform well in tests and examinations,I prefer to work through reading and writing. In my opinion, re-reading and taking notes help us understand better what we are working or studying on. It also helps us to memorize what we need to know for this task. Moreover, it gives us the chances to develop a better performance while taking it and your final grade will be outstanding. It is a great method to retain, memorize and understand the information that we are working on. Learning Style Assignment #2: Myers/Briggs a. Scores and Personality Type. INFJ Introverted Judging 22% 44% Intuitive Feeling 25% 38% b. What is your Personality Type Portrait? - I am “The Protector”.
  • 4. c. What are the careers paths possible for your personality type? - The possible careers paths for me are the following: - Clergy / Religious Work - Teachers - Medical Doctors / Dentists - Alternative Health Care Practitioners, i.e. Chiropractor, Reflexologies - Psychologists - Psychiatrists - Counselors and Social Workers - Musicians and Artists - Photographers - Child Care / Early Childhood Development Learning Styles Assignment #2: Myers/Briggs (Continue) a. Do you agree or disagree with the results? Why or why not? - I do agree with the results because, I want to become a Social Worker. I know it is an excellent choice for me according to my personality. Also, it is very accurate since my other options are Psychologists or Photographer. However, all of them are really great choices for me. b. Do these careers match the careers you have chosen for yourself? - Yes, they do. c. If no, will you change your career choice? - No, I won’t change them. d. What can you do with this information? - As we all know, choosing a career isn’t easy. We have to go for the ones we are good at, the ones closes to our personality and one that we feel comfortable and like doing. Is not just about how much money you will earn but, how much you love what you are doing. This information is very useful and I know it will help me later on in choosing a career that go best with my out standing’s.
  • 5. Learning Style Assignment #3: True Colors 1. What is your dominant color? (Highest Score) - My dominant color is Blue (15). True Colors 20 15 Blue 10 Green 5 Orange 0 Gold Blue Green Orange Gold 2. A). Plan a trip to Europe. - Color: Orange I will call some friends and invite them to accompany me in this wonderful trip. Choose some amazing and creative places to visit. Also, make sure every day is something different and fill with fun and adventures. Later, pack my favorite clothes. Moreover, go to the airport and buy the tickets for our trip. Finally, be ready to have some fun. B). Diffuse an argument at work with an irritate co-worker. - Color: Green I will sit and listen to my co-worker and analyze his/her point of view. I will try to find a solution to our problem; I really don’t like to argue. I will explain him/her that when working with others we need to put away our differences and try to control our attitude and emotions. After this, I will return to my work as usual. C). Communicate with a supervisor, whose ethnicity is different from yours, to solve a scheduling problem. - Color: Gold Using the Gold characteristics, I will communicate with him and explain why I won’t be able to make it that day. As he knows, I am never absent; it has to be a very BIG emergency or problem for me to do so. However, as always I will email or call him to make up the work and give it or send it to him so I can start the next day fresh.
  • 6. Section 3 1. Emotion: Discomfort Typical Situation: You walk into a class for the first time and the professor seems uninterested to teach or uninteresting in general. You suddenly get worried that you will not enjoy this class and you have to have it for your degree. My experience in this situation: In my opinion, maybe the professor didn’t feel well that day or maybe has a lot of problems going on in his/her mind. However, there are plenty reasons why he or she were acting like this that specific day. Anyways, if they keep doing this I think it is better just to change the class with a different professor since this class is part of my degree. Other thing I could do is to study by myself or find a partner that will be interested in having a good grade in this class. The lesson to be learned: Like I said before, if you feel unsecured or uncomfortable just change classes with a different professor. Also, next time you can talk with your advisor an ask him/her to recommend excellent academic professor that are willing to teach their students. Like this you know you will learn something productive from this class. 2. Emotion: Anxiety/Fear Typical Situation: You walk into a class where the professor explains everything that you are going to do this semester. He talks about a 15-page research paper, field studies, and weekly journals. You don’t even have access to a computer. Your experience in this situation: This is something that could happen almost too every freshmen college student. It did happen to me! However, in this situation is normal if you get worry. Computers, now days, are the central tool of learning. In other words, it is very useful when it deals with learning and college assignment because; most of our work is due typed. The lesson to be learned:I know it will be hard for a student do all his/her work without a computer. However, college and libraries offer a lot of resources that can help us when we find ourselves in situations like this. Don’t use the excuse that “I don’t have a computer” because, there are labs that are open the whole day and provides computer and internet for you to do, finish and turn in your work. Also, talk to your professor and let them now, I am sure they will understand and help you out in whatever you might need.
  • 7. 3. Emotion: Excitement Typical Situation: You find out that you won a scholarship that will pay for books, tuition, and fees when you transfer to a four-year university next semester. You can’t wait to share the good news with your family because; they were having a hard time helping and supporting you while you were in college. Your experience in this situation:To be honest, having an experience like this one will be awesome. I will start jumping around, screaming and showing everyone how happy and bless I am. Yes, I will be blessed. Also, promise myself to keep on studying hard and always do my best to keep such blessing (scholarship). The lesson to be learned:Having and creating a career is not easy at all. It requires hard work, time and dedication to what you are about to achieve. But, one of the things that make college an impossible dream for many is “economical situation”. Having the opportunity of earning a scholarship that will pay for everything, in other words; your dream is a blessing. This is why I said; “I am blessed”. Many people won’t get or understand this but, God was the one that made it possible, He was the one that saw and know your needs. Having a blessing like this one, I know I will appreciate it. 4. Emotion: Joy Typical Situation: You have taken your last final exam and will be graduating next week in front of your family, friends, co-workers and a few people who thought you wouldn’t make it. You have a job ready and waiting for you in your field of study. While the pay may not be high, it offers great opportunities for advancement. Your two children are proud to tell everyone that their mom has a college degree, and you know that they will be more likely to attend college because you did. Your experience in this situation:I will be extremely happy for three reasons: I finally finished college and I know I did an excellent job. I have my family next to me in one of the most important days of my life and I know I am doing the right thing by showing my kids an excellent example to always work hard, achieve everything they want in life, to have dreams and make them come true, etc. Finally, having the people that thought I wouldn’t make it and see their reaction on their faces when I walk out with my Degree and an awesome job the next day will be funny and hilarious. It will be a moment to remember.
  • 8. The lesson to be learned: Ignore and block the negativity around you because, it will always be there to destroy and stop you from achieving the best in life. Surround yourself with the beauty that life and God create and give you. For example, people that have the same perspective, the same desire and passion for achieving and doing something productive in and with their lives. Always be yourself no matter where you are because, being yourself will take you higher than what you can imagine. Now I will leave you with some quotes: “It is better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you are not”, “Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself”, “Don’t tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon”. Finally, “If you don’t stand for something; you will fall for nothing”, so make sure you stand for what you believe and love in life.
