1. What does college offer and expect of you?
- College offers you the following;
Independent learning
Fast pace and increased workload
Challenging work
More out of class time to manage
Diverse culture
Higher level thinking
- However, some of the things college expect of you are;
Use syllabi to create, and follow a schedule for the term.
Navigate course materials electronically (if your school uses an online course
management system such as Blackboard).
Get to class on time with the materials you need.
Complete text and other reading with little to no in class review of the reading.
Set up and attend study group meetings.
Turn in projects and coursework on time and be prepared for exams.
Get help when you need it.
2. What thinking skills can help you achieve your goals?
- Analytical thinking, Creative thinking, and Practical thinking are the 3 thinking skills
that can and will help me achieve all my goals.
3. How can a “growth mindset” help you succeed?
- According to the book, people with “growth mindset” understand that no one has ever
accomplished great things. Growth mindset requires EFFORT and effort is what
MAKES you smart or talented.
4. How can you work effectively with others?
- You can work effectively with others by getting to know them and also by practicing
and having in mind the academic integrity; honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and
responsibility.
5. How does college prepare you for work and life success?
- Just like question number two, the three thinking skills also prepare you for work and
life success. According to the book, these skills help you to improve understanding
and achievement, increasing your value in school and on the job. It boosts your
motivation and it shows you where you can grow. Together these abilities move you
toward a goal, as Sternberg explains: Analytical thinking is required to solve
problems and to judge the quality of ideas. Creative intelligence is required to
formulate good problems and ideas in the first place. Practical intelligence is needed
to use the ideas and their analysis in an effective way in one’s everyday life.
