Elephants are large mammals belonging to the family Elephantidae. There are two main species, the African elephant and Asian elephant, though some evidence suggests the African bush and forest elephants are separate species. They are found throughout sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia. Male African elephants are the largest living land animals, able to reach 4 meters tall and weigh 7,000 kg. Elephants have a long trunk, tusks, large ears, and pillar-like legs that help carry their massive weight.
