When most people think of color
guard, they think only of the group that
performs with the marching band in the
fall. However, they are mistaken: much
like other sports, such as cheerleading
and track, that have both indoor and out-
door seasons, color guard similarly has
a secondary indoor group. This indoor
guard performs to pre-recorded musical
tracks and they stand alone on their own
merits. This makes the guard's job more
difficult since the eyes of the judges are
only on them with no distractions com-
ing from musicians and their forms.
Each year, the guard puts on a
creative show filled with opportunities
for its members to shine. This year is
no exception, with music from "The
Thomas Crown Affair" and the show's
theme, Mad Shopping. In fact, accord-
ing to junior Emily Williams, this year's
show was "a fun show that's meant to
make people laugh." This is contrasted to
shows of previous years that were more
introspective and thought-provoking.
Some of the guard members from
Cedar Cliff participate in the activity for

Cedar Cliff guard spins their way to success
Twirling around with her shopping bags,
Amanda Garrett has fun while performing.
With her saber in hand, Emily Williams
performs her routine.
Practicing their acting skills for the show,
Carlton Rochelle and Konstance Gregory
pretend to be a bartender and a customer at a
coffee shop.
Christine Rankin moves with her flag towards
the next big moment of her performance.
Jenn Palmer and Marissa Albano finish model-
ing for the imaginary judges and prepare to
move on to the next section of the show.
To further the shopping motif of the show,
Maria Villafane, Leah Gregory, and Madison
Wagner model various clothing apparel with
their swing flags.
The indoor guard pauses for a moment with
their flags during a run-through of their show.

reasons as to why they like it so much.
Christine Rankin, a sophomore, said,
"I like it because of the friends I have
made there, it's a lot of fun to do, and
it's a great time." Junior Marissa Albano
expressed a similar sentiment when she
said, "One of the reasons why I like color
guard is the rush you get from perform-
ing. It's a really happy and exciting feel-
ing that you can't wait to get again."
After all their persistence, the
Cedar Cliff indoor guard completed a suc-
cessful season in their competitive circuit
that was full of learning, laughter, and
hard work.
