Use Case Perform: Evolution by experience
1. USE CASE

Practical experience is irreplaceable
IT solutions are always planned well in advance, and ex-
pensive development only begins after planning. However,
you often do not have any experience in order to accurately
describe the requirements to the IT. New business models
contain many open factors and can only be pre-planned
to a certain degree. The actual experience is only gained
in practice. Instead of planning for a long time you would
prefer to experiment with practical experiences.
Expensive experiments with your IT
Experimenting is well and good, but once the solution
reaches a certain maturity, this is very expensive and re-
source-intensive. That is why the classic approach for gat-
hering experience is a prototype.
However, at some point you build an actual solution, and
then it can no longer be modified quickly in order to try so-
mething. The better the solution is integrated and the more
opportunities it offers, the greater and more complex the
interdependencies it contains. But the costs involved with
modifications also increase, often exponentially in the case
of serious and frequent changes.
THE CHALLENGE: HOW CAN YOU ACHIEVE ENOUGH
ADAPTABILITY IN ORDER TO ALWAYS REMAIN COMPETITIVE?
Many options, contingencies and risks
Even you do not know in advance how things will develop. How are you supposed to accurately predict customer behavior
or future market developments? In an increasingly networked world new options are constantly cropping up, but also risks.
Life cycles of business models are constantly shortening and in the end everything is just one single big experiment. You
need a set of tools you can use to realistically simulate and analyze complex contingencies, because in the end you are the
one with all the responsibility.
