My media assignment involved producing a music video, magazine advert, and CD digipack to promote an unsigned artist. I used various conventions like lip syncing, mise-en-scene, and camera shots in the music video to follow genres norms. The digipack, video, and advert all featured consistent themes, styles, and colors to create a cohesive representation of the artist. Audience feedback from 36 respondents showed the video was mostly well-received and understandable, and most felt the location, props, and costumes fit the work appropriately. Various technologies like Final Cut Pro, YouTube, and blogs supported my production, research, and evaluation.
3. Introduction My media assignment consisted of picking an unsigned artist and producing a music video, magazine advert and a CD Digipack in an attempt to raise audience awareness of the art and achieving higher recognition and for the respective music products to be consumed. Along the way i kept a blog with every detail in the process from the beginning to the end of my account of the video products, it is also evidence of my research and planning which is always key in any task as you have to be organised to prevent any time wasting and maximise efficiency. http://ramsis18.blogspot.com/
4. Introduction In this PowerPoint I will evaluate and asses how I preformed in making my Digipack, Magazine advert and music video and will deeply annonote why I picked some of the options I did like costumes, scenes, colours and even certain editing software and i will also asses wether it was good or bad, the positives and the negatives and potential improvements if I were to repeat this assignment. There are 4 main questions that i will address......
5. Introduction 1-In what ways does your media use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? This question asks did i challenge the mainstream codes of conventions of my chosen genre of rap and how did my products highlight that wether its the video, Digipackor magazine advert, the use of codes and conventions is very important as it gives a familiar theme to the audiences of the genre and they would quickly recognise, it will also attract the audiences attention which is what we need to raise the artists profile and to get him recognition in an attempt to make him bigger to even be noticed by a label record which is every upcoming artists dream. 2-How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? This question refers to how the media products complimented each other as a synergy and wether or not they are a good combination and a good represenation of the artist for Example does the magazine advert compliment the Cd cover? If no which isn't good the artist will have 2 different images which will confuse the audience for two different artists especially when the artist is still small in the industry and isn't big enough to always be known 3- How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? This question is about on the different types of software and hardware we used to create the media products wether it was in the researching part which was probably the use of the internet or in the planning part which is software like Microsoft word or editing part using final cut pro and the actual shooting using Digital camera hardware , so this question is about how we used these technologies to make our media products and even how we enhanced the media product to become better using technology Example, Photoshop was used to enhance pictures and finely edit. 4-What have you learned from audience feedback? This question is all about what our audiences thoughts, the positives and the negatives we would have found this out through research such as questionnaires and through Facebook, Youtube and other Internet sites, and wether the audience were interested enough to consume the product
6. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My Music Video does use some typical conventions of real Music Videos. Before I started the construction of my Music Video, the one of our first planning research task was to look at existing music videos such as J cole- Simba. I chosen three different music videos and analysed them. After I completed this task, I found out many different typical conventions and ideas, which I used in my music video.
7. Lip syncing Lip syncing is another convention I used that follows existing music video. I got told not to use this method because it is difficult to pull off and can look very bad if I do not do it properly. However, I think I pulled the lip syncing off very well in my Music Video.
8. Mise En Scene Mise en Scene is another convention I used in my music video which was inspired by real existing Music Videos. The quick cut away scenes in my music video are very important and significant to the song. It was crucial to use the right location, props and costumes because if my music video does not look ganster or ghetto looking, people will not enjoy watching it and people would not find it believable and will think our artist isnt really a gangster or an underground rapper, just some fake wan to be. Camera shots Another convention I used which is in existing media products are a range of shots and angles. Range of shots would make my music video more interesting and keeps the audience’s attention. I have used Close ups, panning, tilt shots, far shots and mediums. Certain shots help draw attention to certain things but my favourite shot was the panning as it seemed as the most interesting park like a chase.
9. How Effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
10. My Digipack
11. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text? This question is all about synergy of the link of my product and the ancillary texts that I made. The videos theme is Rapper boasting his lyrical skill and how he doesn't give up which can be clearly seen in the video even with the body language and the facial expressions of our artist. The theme of the whole product is the stuggling people in the Ghetto who have a dream to make it big. Throughout the whole of the project themes of this can be seen. Using Goodwin’s theory, we decided to link the fast, upbeat and exciting song with not only the video but the.........
12. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text? ancillary tasks because we wanted one whole theme of the project. Alley ways and estates contributed highly to the theme of the project. The clothing is normal teenager with a slight hint of gangster clothing like a hoodie, jeans and Adidas high top sneaker which again portray the typical simple ghetto boy in the struggle and not yet the big rich diamond filled rapper. It seems that throughout the Rap genre there is alot of linking with the colours and styles in videos, such as the colour red and black digi-packs and adverts which rappers like Birdman and Rick Ross use.
13. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text? My music video is based on the artist and the story line follows the artist as the main star. My Digipakcombines well with my music video because the artist features on the album cover and is the main object on the picture. he has model for the front and on both inside covers. In my blog i talked about how now all the rap album covers the artist twists his neck to one side and you cant see his face fully and only one eye i adapted into that idea to make the audience recognise this is part of the genre.
14. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text? I also tried to keep the colouring theme of the conventional colouring of rap, red, yellow and black, i also as you can see used the idea of having builiding at the back of my album cover. I think my digipack would be ideal to my teenage audience because I have made my album cover digipak very Ghetto and gangster and I used a similar pose to replicate the American big success J Cole. When young teenagers see J Cole on his album covers, they would like to use him as an idol and copy what he wears and how she looks, such as clothing, lyrics and even way of talking. On the other hand I think my digipak would attract even females due to the females appetite of famous celebrity like figures and generally successful men. Overall I think my digipak is good.
15. What have you learned from your audience feedback? I identified my target audience which was from the age of 14 – 22.
17. Gender and Age 36 people completed the Questionnaire 18 males 18 Females All the people were from the age between 13 – 18+
18. Questionnaire Results Did you enjoy the Music Video? My results shows that 32 people enjoyed my Music Video and only 4 people did not enjoy the music video. 89% of my audience who completed my questionnaire enjoyed my music video and only 11% did not enjoy it. This shows my Music Video was a success.
19. Questionnaire Results How entertaining did you find the Music Video? My Results shows that 12 people found my music very entertaining, 22 people found it entertaining enough and 2 people found it not very entertaining. 33% of my audience who completed my questionnaire found my music video very entertaining, 61% found it Entertaining Enough and 6% did not find my music video very entertaining. I am very satisfied with the results because only 6% of my target audience did not find my Music Video Entertaining and the majority my target audience found my music video entertaining. Not all the audience was pleased with the same thing, they all had different opinions.
20. Questionnaire Results Did you understand the storyline of the music video? My Results shows that 30 people answered Yes, 6 people answered parts of it and no one answered “No”. 83% of my audience who completed my questionnaire understands the storyline of my music video, 17% of my audience only understand parts of the music video, no one was confused or did not understand any of the storyline. My results shows that my audience had a good knowledge of what was happening in the music video, which indicates I have express the storyline well and kept a story throughout the music video.
21. Questionnaire Results Could You See This Music Video On T.V? My Results shows that 18 people answered Yes and 18 people answered No. 50% of my audiences who completed the questionnaire thinks my music video could be shown on Television and the other 50% thinks my music video cannot be shown on television. I am satisfied with the results of this question because half of the people thinks my music video is good enough to be on a music channel on television, however I know my music video is not perfect, which could be the reason why the results is equal.
22. Questionnaire Results Do you think the location, props and costume are appropriate for the music video? The results shows that 31 people answered Yes and 5 people answered No. 86% of my audience who completed the questionnaire thought the location, props and costume was appropriate for the music video and only 14% thought it was not appropriate. I am overly pleased with this result because it took me a quite a long time to plan my location, ask for permission for filming and consider the right location for my storyline. It also took a lot of time looking at.
23. 4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
24. Using Final Cut Pro I found Final Cut Pro quite hard to use. During this course I have gained more knowledge and experience in using the program. Final Cut enabled me to: Import Video clips, Sound Effects/Music, Pictures Apply different video effects and transitions Cut video footage Overlay pictures, video and music together
25. Blogger I have used this media online technology to create a blog which enables me to upload text, pictures and videos to show the progress of my Advanced Portfolio from the research and planning to the construction stages.
27. Using Blogger Text Blogger allows me to use different font style, colour and sizes for the text. I haven’t really took this advantage because I did not think it was necessary for the changes. I have kept to the same font colour, style and size. Picture and Video Blogger allowed me to upload pictures and videos onto my blog to show evidences of my work and research. The program has different options such as the size of the photo or video, and the layout whether you want picture or video on the left, right or centre. I found Blogger very easy to use. The navigation on it was very simple. When you want to see a particular post, all you have to do is click on the drop down menu and find the posting you want. The only disadvantage on the Blogger is once you have blogged a post, you can not alter the order you have posted them.
28. You Tube This video sharing website enabled me to look at other music videos to give me inspiration and ideas of what I could of done my music video. I also used this website to help me complete one of my research and planning task which was the textual analysis of a music video.
29. Research Majority of the research I did took place online. I made use of sites such as YouTube that enable comments to be left as it’s important to see the criticisms and comments made about the video and the artist themself so that we could endeavour to not make the same mistakes and to pick up on the things done well. Sites like Myspace Music, Facebook and Twitter helped me to see how up and coming artists market themselves online. I also made use of satellite television channels such as MTV and the Charts. This was also helpful as the chart shows on these predominantly Rap channels showed the most popular videos which showed me the best videos to draw aspects from for my own videos.
30. Still Camera Photos I used still camera photos during the planning stage and also the construction of the production and ancillary tasks. I used still photos in: Location Planning cast Showing what Costumes I am using Showing what Props I am using Ending of my Music Video Music Digipak Music Magazine Advertisement WHAT A POSER!!
