Agenda
3. • Launched in 2009 to
support teachers’ use of
Open Educational
Resources (OER) in
classrooms in the US and
internationally
• The program includes
monthly trainings,
meetings, and other
supports
ISKME’s OER Fellowship Program
4. • A one year
commitment for eight
Fellows
• Collaborative and project-
based, each Fellow
develops, documents,
and shares an OER
curriculum project
OER Fellowship Program (continued)
• Each Fellow also presents and trains others in their
education community
5. • Expand their roles as educational leaders
• Adopt new teaching styles and technologies for the classroom
• Mentor and train other educators
• Implement and share innovative projects— including arts
integration, science, technology, math, and college and career
readiness
What We Have Learned
Impact on teaching and learning
Evaluation of ISKME’s Fellowship Program has shown that the
program has helped participants:
6. “I love checking in with the other
Fellows during our meetings and
seeing what everyone else is doing.
The Fellowship keeps you on task, on
check with your own growth, and
accountable for your work. It is very
motivating.”
What Participants Have Said About Their
Fellowship
“The Fellowship complimented what
I hoped to teach this year, and gave
me the support to make it happen.”
7. Case Study: Math Teacher
Example from Jason Rothgeb, high school math teacher
in Chicago, Illinois is:
• Transforming his math course from a lecture format to a
“flipped format”: Students now review Khan Academy math
videos at home, and do group work in the classroom
• Developing math OER based on this model, and aligned to
his school’s learning standards
• Working with students to collaborate online and document
their work as part of his curriculum
8. 1. Partner with schools to create opportunities for the
improvement of teaching and learning
2. Enable teachers to use, adapt, and align open content to
SEC curriculum standards
3. Positively impact student outcomes, and overall help to
prepare Qatari students for a knowledge-based economy
Goals of the Fellowship Program (Qatar)
9. Overview of the Program
• Participants develop, document, and share an OER project that
consists of curriculum materials aligned to SEC math standards
• Measure the impact on mathematics achievement for the
students and schools involved in the pilot
• Provide formative and summative evaluation of the program to
assess progress toward goals

13. Year Two and beyond
Year Two:
• Expand program to include Science teachers
• Incorporate additional measurements for student
impact
• Create Train the Trainer program for prior OER
Fellowship participants
Year Three:
• Scale the Fellowship Program to additional
teachers as well as additional subject areas
• Increase the number of participant schools
Presentation vibe: present sound good research and examples "here's what we found. it's working great for others"
