I am honored to recommend Ms. Mary Sias for a position within your department. I have known
her for over ten years. As a parent volunteer with the summer engineering camps, she has given
of her time without reservation. In 2004, the University of Houston hosted the SECME
Conference, she serviced as a volunteer consultant. She has helped us with various activities for
the three-week long event.
Each summer she has taken her vacation time to volunteer to help with the PROMES/MESET
Engineering camp. One of her most effective projects was the invention of the Engineering
Jeopardy Game. This game helps teach the students about the various fields of engineering
while having fun at the same time. The students love it and really get into the game. She has
also taken the students on field trips to various chemical plants and construction facilities.
We were so impressed with her that we asked her to become our Head Counselor for the program.
She attends her day job and then comes over to the University each evening. She stays overnight
in the dorms and monitors the high school and college students. In the evenings, she leads the
students in team building exercises, study skills, scholarship searches, fun and games.
She serves as a bridge to help students decide which type of college is right for them and which
majors might be better suited for the students. She is excellent with the students. She helps the
students to determine their strengths and challenges them to soar higher. She also gives them
skills to help make the transition from high school to college a success. The parents of the
participants also like her very much. They just love her enthusiasm
I strongly recommend Mary Sias for a position with your organization. She is an exceptional
candidate for your organization. Her leadership, planning, organizational, and communication
