This document provides instructions for finding a specific article in Forsyth Library at Fort Hays State University. It outlines the steps to access library databases, search for a journal by title to find available issues, and then search within an issue to locate a specific article. If the article is unavailable, interlibrary loan services can be used to request it. The summary also provides contact information for library staff if any questions arise during the research process.

2. To access Forsyth Library from any FHSU website page, mouse over the QuickLinks and click on the library’s link.

4. Click “Find Articles & Databases”

5. Click “A to Z”

6. Type in the Journal Name and search Allen, R. (2008). Perceived diversity and organizational performance. Employee Relations, 30(1), 20-33.

7. Journals with those keywords will come up Be careful to find the exact title you need This is a list of all the databases which contain full-text coverage (complete articles) of that journal, and for what dates.

8. Check the date of your article against the dates contained in each database listed. Allen, R.(2008). Perceived diversity and organizational performance. Employee Relations, 30(1), 20-33. 10. Scroll through the contents of the issue to find your article

11. Click “HTML” or “PDF” to see the complete article.

12. Choose PDF if available. It will give you the page numbers you need for your bibliography. HTML PDF

13. A few databases will require you to search for the title of your article, when you click A to Z The Quiet Americans: Recession and Pay. Economist, June 2009 A to Z LexisNexis Academic Type in the article title The journal name is automatically entered into your search by A to Z

14. If the journal is not found in A-to-Z, or if the date you need is not found Journal not found in A to Z

15. Search the online catalog for the print version of the journal Return to the library’s home page: www.fhsu.edu/library Click “Forsyth Library Catalog”

16. Search for the Journal Name(not the article title) Kennedy, M. (2009). Change happens. American Journal of Nursing, 109 (8), 9-15.

17. The title is found, but we still need to know what issues the library owns. Click the journal title to find out.

18. Check the library’s holdings against the date of your article We own this journal in both Microfilm and in print. We own microfilm issues only up to 1998 However, we have print issues from 1998 - present, which would include the article we are looking for.

19. Write down the call number for the journal, and use it to locate the correct issue of the journal Call Number for this Journal is RT1.A13

20. Issues dated 1994 – present are shelved in the Periodical Reading Room on the Main Floor Periodicals Area on Main Floor of Forsyth Library

21. Issues dated prior to 1994 are shelved in the compact shelving in the basement, in call number order.

22. If you can’t find the article in A-to-Z or in the Online Catalog, you can request it through Interlibrary loan (for local or on-campus students) www.fhsu.edu/library/geninfo/services-information/ Or, click the Services tab on the main menu, then click “Our Services to You’ Distance Students should click on “Distance Education Services” to request items.

23. Loans are usually free. If a free copy cannot be located, you will be notified prior to any charges. Complete the form and hit Submit at the bottom. Be sure to put your SCATCAT E-mail address, or you may not receive your article.

24. Receiving Your Articles Usually the article will be e-mailed to you at your Scatcat e-mail address. The message will contain a password that will allow you to access the document. Occasionally, the article will be in print form, and you will need to stop by the Interlibrary Loan office, Room 112, at the library to pick it up. We will contact you when it arrives.
