Would you like to work for one of Europe’s fastest growing companies and has been for the last few
years? Reporting into the CTO as Senior Software Development Manager / Head of Software
Development you will lead multiple scrum teams delivering consumer facing products. You will have
charisma and a lot of passion for software. You will work in an agile environment and release in
sprints of two weeks.
You will keep an eye on current tech trends and methodologies. Mentoring and helping to guide
your team of developers and be approachable yet firm when the business requires. You will be
comfortable in c# and java and bring any other languages in your field to expand the knowledge of
your team and shape the direction of the product.
You will need:
Managerial skills – at least 4/5 years’ experience. Commercially astute, understand how
technology fits into the business roadmap
People manager, proven experience of building and mentoring teams, great communication
skills and thoughtful, considered and yet direct in firm terms when needed
Have a strong background in high-scalability enterprise or web services software
development in a distributed architecture.
Engineering background, previously developer into development and/or project delivery and
then development manager
Have the ability to confront core SW architecture issues, have a pro-active attitude, have the
ability to make pragmatic but intelligent design decisions.
• Can work closely with business stakeholder’s to figure out requirements and translate them
to technical solutions
Strong on agile, release every two weeks, building at scale for things like continuous
integration from scratch
Back end C# and Java. Not get run rings round by developers, enable the tech to be geeks.
There are some huge technology challenges to solve
Team size – manage 3 or 4 scrum teams for key products, so team total is 20 odd engineers
Work with peer – product and project management
You must have worked in good recognisable businesses

2. Your responsibilities will include:
Extend and maintain existing and new software systems
Planning, estimating, and continuously improving code quality, system design and process
Work with the business to understand and implement complex requirements
Work in an Agile environment, assisting in the move towards Continuous Deployment
Keeping a constant eye on changing industry ideas and practices, and monitoring emerging
technologies
Work with geographically distributed teams
Liaise with key business stakeholders and comprehend issues outside of R&D
Working with Product Leads to define requirements and then ensuring your team delivers
on them
Working with the Head of Applications and CTO on the wider direction of technology within
Wonga
Mentoring and guiding a team of software developers
Attending business briefings/networking events
Tech: Object Oriented Design, SOA, Design Patterns, Messaging, Agile Methodologies, Unit
Testing, leadership, communication, commercial awareness
