Here a short description about the materials that the fuel pump is made of will be
presented. Mainly there are three basic systems in every pump, namely, the hydraulics
section, the electronic parts and the frame or housing.
Hydraulics section is the electro mechanical devices that bring fuel from the tank. It is
generally made from cast iron or cast aluminum. Synthetic rubber may also be used in the
hydraulic segment, for seals and gaskets. Iron or Aluminum is melted and poured into
molds. Then let them cool. After that molds are removed and clean them by scrape. Then
the sheets of metal are being fed into the machines that cut them into desired shapes with
required specifications. Like this way different parts are made and then by assembling
those in order hydraulics are made.
In many pumps, there is an electronic device that enables that displays how much the fuel
is pumped and the cost of it etc. Furthermore there are devices that fixed in to it that
enables the read of credit cards and debit it from consumer’s account. So these devices
are micro-processors similar to those used in computers and calculators. Hence the
electronic portion use printed circuit boards and plastic parts for creation.
Finally the outer housing of the fuel pump is generally made of sheet steel, or stainless
steel.
