blemishes from the skin. Other active ingredients that are helpful include sulfur and esorcinol.
These over the counter medications usually take a long time before one can realize the benefits
of using them.
For persistent cases of acne, there are also prescription treatments available. Most of these
medications contain the vitamin A derivative called tretinoin. This active ingredient is very
efficient in unclogging pores and removing dead skin cells. The bacteria that cause acne can
be eliminated using topical antibiotics like erythromycin or clindamycin. In order to get the best
results out of any of the acne medications, you need to use them consistently over a long period
of time, otherwise the whiteheads and other blemishes might recur. A dermatologist will give
