Citizen of mid-Atlantic, Mariana Costa Weldon – il neige sur Liège -- landed in Canada very young; her exhibition includes a unique selection of images seized in her frequent travels around the world near and far. Passion for captured moments into photographs [sic], fed by a dynamic, varied and rich life and life-style, emerged several decades ago, out of curiosity for the world around, but particularly because of her inexplicable attraction towards nature, life, people, emotions and wanting to share this – a compulsive trait of her personality.
Crepuscule and its surreal light, the rapid passing of clouds, a blink into fragmented land- or urbanscapes: these she sees and interprets unconventionally and diversely every time – from a car in motion, from a train, from a boat, or standing in awe before, beside, below the object of desire that holds her heart, mind and eye spellbound. Like everything in her life, mood and emotion determine where she goes and what she does artistically; never schools, trends or techniques.
Though you might think improvisation the main element in her style, I believe that wasting a second glance on the images with the eyes of the heart, you may find the less substantial and evident aspect, which tells you chance is not at the core of the creation – rather emotions, and a Stendhalian love of detail, cause and effect, self-surprise above all.

CAGLIARI – THE WORLD – BALERNA
il neige sur Liège Personal Exhibition
(MARIANA COSTA WELDON)
Cagliari-born, citizen of mid-Atlantic, Mariana Costa Weldon – il neige sur Liège —landed in
Canada very young; there she studied, raised a family and taught university; and in-between
did a lot of other things. At the moment she commutes between Switzerland and Cagliari for
professional reasons.
The exhibition includes a unique selection of images seized in her frequent travels around the
world far and near. Passion for captured moments into photographs [sic], fed by a dynamic,
varied and rich life and life-style, emerged several decades ago, out of curiosity for the world
around, but particularly because of her inexplicable attraction towards nature, life, people,
emotions and wanting to share this – a compulsive trait of her personality.
What moves her is the need to capture images, an innate sensorial ability and keen interest for
the tiniest details, and for not letting the fleeting moment disappear without trace and
memory, but seizing it forever, making it mine/yours/the world’s. Research into the
invisibly visible is the Prime Mover in this quest that goes after unrepeatable experiences –
supposedly, like anyone’s – a need and propulsion into the realm of the unexplored self.
Crepuscule and its surreal light, the rapid passing of clouds, a blink into fragmented land- or
urbanscapes: these she sees and interprets unconventionally and diversely every time – from
a car in motion, from a train, from a boat, or standing in awe before, beside, below the object
of desire that holds her heart, mind and eye spellbound. Like everything in her life, mood and
emotion determine where she goes and what she does; alas, never school or technique.
Though you might think improvisation the main element in her style, I believe that wasting a
second glance on the images with the eyes of the heart, you may find the less substantial and
evident aspect, which tells you chance is not at the core of the creation – rather emotions, and
a Stendhalian love of detail, cause and effect, self-surprise above all.
