Plant tissues are classified into two main types: meristematic and permanent tissues. Meristematic tissues are responsible for cell production and are found at growing tips, while permanent tissues provide structure and transport functions. The four main permanent tissues are surface tissues, fundamental tissues of parenchyma, collenchyma and sclerenchyma, and vascular tissues of xylem and phloem which transport water, minerals and food respectively.
