2. ERIC GARCETTI currently serves as the Councilmember representing the 13th
Council District. He was Los Angeles City Council President from 2006 until 2012.
A fourth-generation Angeleno, Garcetti was raised in the San Fernando Valley.
Garcetti studied urban planning and political science at Columbia University,
where he received his B.A. and M.A. in International Relations. He also studied as
a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and the London School of Economics and
was a Rockefeller Foundation Next Generation Leadership Fellow. He taught pub-
lic policy, diplomacy and world affairs at Occidental College and the University of
Southern California before being elected to the City Council.
WENDY GREUEL currently serves as City Controller, and is the city’s chief
auditor and financial watchdog. A lifelong Angeleno, Wendy attended public schools
from Knollwood Elementary, to John F. Kennedy High School, through earning her
degree at UCLA. Wendy started her career in public service working for former
Mayor Tom Bradley, eventually becoming deputy to the Mayor. Following her tenure
in Mayor Bradley’s office, Wendy worked as a senior advisor at the US Department
of Housing and Urban Development. In 1997, Wendy transitioned into the private
sector, working in the film industry as an executive at DreamWorks Pictures for five
years. In 2002, Wendy was elected to the Los Angeles City Council. In 2009, Wendy
was elected Controller for the City of Los Angeles.
KEVIN JAMES began his legal career in 1988 in the litigation department of
Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. After two years of practicing law, Kevin was hired by the
United States Department of Justice to work as an Assistant United States Attor-
ney in Los Angeles. Kevin joined the all-volunteer Board of Directors of AIDS Pro-
ject Los Angeles where he served for six years from 1995 through 2000. Kevin
was the Vice-Chair of the Board in 1998 and Co-Chair of the Board in 1999 and
2000. In early 2003, Kevin began his talk radio career as a legal analyst and fill-in
host on Talk Radio 790 KABC in Los Angeles. “The Kevin James Show" on 870
KRLA was live on the air from May 2007 until late in 2011. Kevin received his un-
dergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1985, and obtained his
Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston Law Center in 1988. Kevin resides
in Los Angeles.
JAN PERRY earned both her Bachelors and Masters Degree at USC, married
and began work as a paralegal. She became active in her local community eventu-
ally serving as president of the homeowners association. In 1990, she was offered
a position as Planning Deputy at the Office of Los Angeles City Councilman Mike
Woo. In 1993, Jan became the Chief of Staff for a former City Councilwoman of
the Ninth District. Since 2001, Jan Perry has served as the Councilmember repre-
senting the Ninth Council District of the City of Los Angeles.
