2. M ichael Dwayne Andrews was born March 9, 1962 to Charles and Annie Andrews. He was
born a big, beautiful baby full of life. He was a happy lil kid who could never sit still. He loved to
dance and sing and make everyone laugh. He was trained by his father to be athletic and to love
sports. Mike was always in his dad’s shadow, doing push-ups, running laps, lifting weights, etc.
He played organized sports in Inglewood Parks and Recreation League since he was, as they say,
“knee high to nothing.” His dad had he and his brother playing football, basketball, and t-ball /
baseball year round. When they were old enough, they played Pop Warner football. They also
played Little League Baseball at Summit Field. The family lived in the stands screaming,
supporting Big Mike and Chuck! While at Inglewood High School, Big Mike played football. He
absolutely lived and loved the game! He was a two year Letterman and he earned All Ocean
League and All CIF Honors as a Linebacker. He also ran track at IHS. He ran the 100 meters,
200 meters and 4 by 100 relay. Mike loved music. He learned to play the guitar at a young age.
He played drums in the band at Crozier Jr. High, and at IHS. After graduating from High
School in 1980, he received a football scholarship to Cal State University at Long Beach. He
transferred to Glendale College where he played football and received his AA degree. He later
attended and played football for Cal State Fullerton, and Langston University in Oklahoma
where he received his BA degree in Business Administration.
Mike was employed with the Los Angeles Unified School District. He worked with Special Needs
students. Mike had a lot of patience. He loved children. He was a great encourager. To know
him is to love him. Mike became a football coach for Monroe High School in the Los Angeles
Unified School District. He loved coaching and the kids!!! After leaving Monroe, Michael began
coaching football at Hamilton High School and at Santa Monica College under Coach Taylor. He
coached at Santa Monica for several years. He later joined the coaching staff at Glendale
College, his alma mater! He was excited to return to Glendale and Coach for Coach Cicuto and
Coach Rome. Mike built relationships with his players and they loved him, as everyone did.
Mike knew and loved God. He grew up in the Greater Page Temple Church of God in Christ.
There he was in the Sunday School with Sister Cooper, Sis Pat Brown-King and others, Sunshine
Band, Purity Class with Mother Farmer, the Youth Department with Elder Marvin Brown and
others. His upbringing in church afforded him his character, love of God and love of people.
For the past 22 years, Mike attended New Antioch Church of God in Christ. There he served on
the Usher Board and as the Athletic Director. He also volunteered annually to coach and play
ball with the NAC kids for Vacation Bible School.
Mike loved his family and friends. He loved hard. He loved his mom and dad, lil brother Chuck,
big sister Ish, nephews and nieces Tony Charles, Neal Anthony, Aja Rose, and Morgan Rose in a
way that is inexplicable.
He leaves to cherish his “World Famous” memory to: his parents Charles and Annie Andrews,
sister Michelle, brother Chuck. Nephews: Tony and Neal. Nieces: Aja and Morgan. Aunt Arene
and Uncle Oscar Wattley, cousins Dee (Big Rick) and kids of Denver, Colorado. Cousins
Josephine, Dot and all of his Texas family. Aunt Lurlene, Morgan, and all of his Pensacola,
Florida family. Uncle Richard and Auntie Sandy of Mobile, Alabama. Cousins Ann, Lil Willie,
Rashon, Damon and a host of relatives and friends.

8. As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving
And the rosebuds know to bloom in early May
Just as hate knows love's the cure
You can rest your mind assure
That I'll be loving you always….
As now can't reveal the mystery of tomorrow
But in passing will grow older every day
Just as all is born is new
Do know what I say is true
That I'll be loving you always….
Love, Your Big Sis Ish
