In short …
Definition:


“Flipping the Classroom is a way to organise your education. Classical
knowledge transfer is being (partially) replaced with videos or other
online ways of instruction.
Pupils have to watch these instruction videos at home and in class they
have to apply their knowledge in assignments en practical use.”
Why?
Sometimes you need to change perspective (turn your head and see)
Why?
Simple applications make it possible to record classical instruction


BUT
Why should you?


It costs extra time;
You need to change the lessons at school;
How can I check if pupils make (watch) their homework?

In other words: which problem does this approach solve?
Why Flipping the Classroom?
Flipping the Classroom can help in organising education especially with:




Personalized Learning;
Letting pupils learn at their own pace in their own time;
Creating room for achieving 21 st century.
A Dutch example

Geography teacher David Pijpaert, www.davidpijpaert.nl, uses video to
instruct his pupils. With little editing he records his PowerPoint
presentations or records a vodcast. He then places this content
online, for example on www.vimeo.com. Pupils need to watch these
videos before they can go on in class.

Two sides of the story:
• Videos contain the parts of the lesson that are suitable for digital
  offering;
• In class USE the time that you get when you don’t give classical
  instructions anymore!

  • 5. In short … Definition: “Flipping the Classroom is a way to organise your education. Classical knowledge transfer is being (partially) replaced with videos or other online ways of instruction. Pupils have to watch these instruction videos at home and in class they have to apply their knowledge in assignments en practical use.”

  • 8. Why? Simple applications make it possible to record classical instruction BUT Why should you? It costs extra time; You need to change the lessons at school; How can I check if pupils make (watch) their homework?

  • 13. A Dutch example Geography teacher David Pijpaert, www.davidpijpaert.nl, uses video to instruct his pupils. With little editing he records his PowerPoint presentations or records a vodcast.
