In this presentation I show you what it takes to get your online business up and running. From selecting a niche, all the way to publishing your site- I show you exactly what it takes to succeed.
2. Step 1: Website Ideas
You first need to select a profitable niche to build a site
about. The most known profitable niches include, but
are not limited to; Auto Insurance, Medical, and
Finances.
There are various ways to determine the popularity of a
niche. One way to know if the niche you’re entering is
a popular niche, you use a tool made by Google
appropriately called the “Keyword Tool.”
3. Step 1: Continued
Adwords Keyword Tool
To use this tool, you simply type in the keywords you’re
interested in finding out their search popularity. For
example, if you typed in “cars” the results would look
like this….
4. Step 1: Continued
Using the Keyword tool will help you determine the
popularity of the niche you are entering. One thing to keep
in mind is, if the niche you are entering is very popular,
competition is going to be stiff, and ranking high in search
engines is going to be very tough.
You need to balance popularity with competition. For
example, building a site about cars is a highly popular and
very competitive niche. Hence, your site won’t get much
exposure and you won’t make much money.
5. Step 2: Choosing The Right Domain
Once you’ve found a niche you feel comfortable with,
it’s time to start thinking about the domain you want
to host your site on. Finding a good domain is hard
these days, but if you’re creative, you shouldn’t have
much problems.
Getting the right domain is critical to your success. You
want your domain to sound like what you offer. For
example, if you have a site that offers an online car
auction, an appropriate domain would be
autoauction.com
6. Step 3: Building The Site
Once you’ve found a niche you feel comfortable with,
it’s time to start building the site. One thing to keep in
mind here is that you’re building an MFA site (Made
For Adsense), so you need to account for a website
layout that’s built with ad placement hotspots in mind.
To get an idea of where these hotspots are, take a look
at this diagram provided by Google.
The orange spots indicate an optimal spot for an
advertisement. The darker the orange, the better.
8. Step 3: Continued
As an online marketer using Adsense to monetize a
website, development time of the website should be as
minimal as possible in terms of layout. I recommend
getting a free prebuilt layout at freelayouts.com
You want to choose a layout that’s easy on the eyes and
is welcoming at the same time to keep your visitors on
the site as long as possible. For example, if you choose
a template that has a dark red background, don’t
expect your visitors to stay around for too long.
10. Step 4: Content
Once you’ve picked out the right template, it’s now time for
content. You’ve probably heard this before, but content
really is “king.” The content is what’s going to drive visitors
to your site, and most importantly, keep them there. You
want to try for original content, but if you are unable to,
find good sources for content.
I recommend going to articlebase.com and getting free
articles to host on your site. While you do have to list the
source and author of the article(s), with proper SEO
(Search Engine Optimization), you could beat your
competition in ranking and drive visitors to your site first.
11. Step 4: Continued
You want to make sure to provide enough content on
your website for search engines to pick up. But not just
any old content, you want the content on your website
to target the keywords you looked up earlier for
choosing your niche.
You do that by finding content that has a high
concentration of words (i.e. keywords), that search
engines will pick up. You also want to add the
keywords you’re targeting in your source code for the
page with that content, also know as meta tags.
12. Step 5: Publishing The Site
Once you’ve finished developing the site, it’s now time
to publish it and make public. There are many ways to
get your site up and running, I find the easiest is to
host your site with a free hosting company.
freehostia.com is an excellent choice and they offer up
to 6GB’s of bandwidth, 250GB’s of HDD space, and up
to 4 domains under the same account- Easily more
than enough for any starter.
13. Step 6: Setting up Adsense
Once your site is up and running and you’re in
business, it’s now time to apply for an Adsense
account. Google asks for some basic information from
the beginning, but once it’s time for payout #1, they
will require other information some people aren’t
comfortable giving out. Be sure to read their TOS
before signing up.

Getting approved usually takes one or two days, so in
the mean time you can set up Analytics.
14. Step 6: Setting up Analytics
Setting up an Analytics account is free and doesn’t
require much effort. You simply register for an account
and insert the snippet of Javascript on all the pages you
want to keep track of traffic on. The nice thing is you
can keep track of several sites using one account, so
you don’t have to create multiple accounts for different
sites.
15. Step 7: Marketing
Once your Adsense and Analytics accounts have been
set up, it’s now time to start marketing your site. There
are several, and I mean several, ways to market your
site. Here are few ways I believe are best:
Back linking- Post in niche related forums and have a link back to your site in your signature.
Social networks- Digg, StumbleUpon, and Twitter are great ways to market your site.
Link Exchange Programs- I personally don’t recommend it, but some have found great success in
doing so.
Youtube- Can’t emphasize enough on how great of a marketing tool it is.
16. Step 8: Once All Is Said And Done
If you’ve completed steps 1-7 you are already on your way to
success. Getting a site started and set up with all the tools
you will need is the first step to making money online.
