Introduction to :
Safety switches
Switches are defined as electrical components that can
break an electrical circuit, interrupting the current or diverting
electrical current from one conductor to another. Switches
can be operated by human operators who manually control
electric circuits, computer aided software.There are many
different types of valves that are found in different industries
and applications are as Below:
Switches Safety switches
Push-button switches Rotary switches
Foot-switches Joysticks
Rocker switches Waterproof switches
Control foot switches Toggle swiches
P u s h - b u t t o n s w i t c h e s
Push button switches are also known as biased
switches. They are switches that only work when
specific buttons assigned to them are pressed
hence withdrawing pressure breaks the circuit.
They are considered the most used in electric
circuits and electrical designs.
Push button switches mostly comprise of internal
spring tools or knobs that aid in opening or
closing circuits when pressed.
F o o t s w i t c h e s
Foot switches. These types of switches are
operated by applying foot pressure to either
open or close circuits.
Foot switch applications usually require specific
electrical ratings, cables, pedal actions and
other variations.
Consumers are advised to consider factors like
proper current and voltage rating, enclosure
rating, the size and shape and finally singe or
multiple pedal before purchasing foot switches.
R o c k e r s w i t c h e s
Rocker switches can be defined as on/off
switches that rocks when pressed meaning
that when one side is pressed the other
remains raised and when the raised side is
pressed down the other one is raised up.
Rocker switches are operated by pressing
one side of the switch up or down to either
close or open the circuit respectively. They
are normally used to directly power electrical
devices and can be found in a wide range of
electrical appliances or devices.

This are switches that are mainly open or closed
via various feet movements. They are mainly
designed to be fitted in lower places so that legs
remain to be the only limbs that are fit to control
them.
They are fitted mainly in vehicles' brake pads and
acceleration pads. These types of switches are
similar to foot switches in various ways the main
one being the fact that they both use the same
part of the body.

Safety switches are switches installed to protect
equipment and people from damage or electrical
shocks.
They usually monitor the flow of electricity hence
are able to detect any malfunction that can
cause harm or damage.
R o t a r y s w i t c h e s
These are types of switches mainly activated by
rotating knobs hence reaching the correct
positions ensuring the completion of a circuit.
Operate with a twisting motion of the operating
handle with at least two positions.
Rotary switches can have different positions
hence permitting a particular point to be
connected to one of a number of other points in
the electronic circuits.
J o y s t i c k s
Joystick switches-these are types of switches
triggered by levels that are able to move in more
than one direction.
Joystick switches work on the principle of on
which way the lever is pressed and by how far it is
pressed.
Car gear box is one of the electrical applications
that use this type of switches. Electrical
equipments that are involved in controlling
including camera jeeps and cranes use this
technology.

Waterproof switches - these types of switches
are designed to prevent the entry of water, water
if in contact with electricity is likely to cause
electrocution of aqua life and human beings.
Waterproof switches are used in water based
electrical installations or equipments that have a
high risk of getting into contact with water and
cause mechanical and electrical failures.
Waterproof switches can be used inside water or
aqua situations without fear of electric
malfunction.

Toggle switches are mainly operated by levers that
one flips up or down to open or close the contacts.
Toggle switches are mainly triggered by devices in
one or two more positions.
Household electrical wiring connections are a
good example of how these switches work.
These switches have inbuilt springs that are held
tightly in the positions they are switched to.
