Applied Aesthetics & Art The way one scene flows into the next is skillful and artful The scenes need to be designed and composed to come across the media well.
Applied Aesthetics & Contextual Perception The book says, “When we look at an event, we are constantly engaging in judging one aspect of it against another aspect or another event.” In the commercial we are judging ‘our man’ against the old spice man, a contextual and aesthetic judgement.
Aesthetic Context This is a gut reaction, and an immediate feeling. How did it feel when the old spice guy is suddenly on a horse?
Applied Media Aesthetics Lighting – bright and on the old spice guy Sound – bold and direct Both interact to create a dynamic setting for the commercial to take place.
The Basic Purpose Applied media aesthetics are used to clarify, intensify, and interpret events for a specific audience. The old spice guy clarifies that your man should smell like him and not a lady.
The Basic Purpose He intensifys the point by ‘giving’ you things, things that  can only be given to you if your guy smells like a man. You are then left to interpret, do you want a lady scented man, or a manly man?

Motion In this scene, the director, Oliver Stone uses constant motion.  Either the actors are in motion or the camera is, and sometimes both are in motion. A handheld camera was used to create motion, as well as tilted angles, zooms and trucking.
Angles Camera Angles The camera angles in the movie clip aren't facing the actors normally. They're a little tilted at some points or placed in the corner.  Also at certain points they have the camera zoomed in on an actor and then it would zoom out slowly.  
Lighting Lighting The lighting in the clip was very bright at some points but then it would go to black and white at some parts I guess to show a darker side to the scene.
