The Energy Area of Law Page is a starting point for LexisNexis’s energy law solutions. You can find cases, statutes and legislatives material, numerous types of forms including oil and gas leases, division orders, transfer orders, gas purchase contracts, pooling and unitization forms. You can also access all LN energy law treatises as well as emerging issues analyses in the area of energy law.
We publish two of the three leading national treatises on oil and gas law, Williams & Meyers and Kuntz, Law of Oil & Gas. While West publishes the third well-known title ( Summers ), it is shorter than Williams & Meyers and lacks some of the topical coverage available in our books. Williams & Meyers is the most authoritative and comprehensive treatise on the law relating to oil and gas. Topical coverage includes oil and gas conveyancing, leasing, pooling, unitization, and operating problems. Frequently cited by the courts and highly regarded by oil and gas attorneys, the treatise monitors changes to the law as well as new and developing areas. We also publish the Williams & Meyers Manual of Oil and Gas Terms, a one-volume handy softbound desk reference that defines the words, phrases and acronyms most useful to lawyers, accountants, and others in the great variety of occupations related to the lucrative oil and gas industry. It includes, where appropriate, references to statutes, cases, books and law review articles. Kuntz provides full treatment of oil and gas law issues, including coverage of the rights of owners of various types of interests in oil and gas, with an emphasis on conveyancing; analysis of the oil and gas lease and the rights and duties that arise from such a lease as well as the various transactions that stem from the lease; and government regulations and taxation. Separate volumes contain relevant state oil and gas statutes and a variety of sample forms.
Energy Law & Transactions is the perfect reference and transactional resource for anyone interested in knowing the legal and business-related aspects of energy transactions. It covers the energy industry, all traditional energy sources, such as oil, gas, electricity, and coal, as well as nontraditional energy technologies and sources, such as hydroelectricity, solar, nuclear, biomass, and cogeneration. These energy sources and technologies are discussed from cradle to grave: from exploration and production through transmission, distribution, and final consumption by the end user. We also have publications on specialized topics that are not matched by West (e.g., oil and gas leasing, pooling and unitization), and a handy Manual of Oil and Gas Terms. For Texas, both LexisNexis and West have a treatise devoted to Texas oil and gas law.
State analytical content provides an annotated overview of the law.
LexisNexis has a vast collection of statutory and regulatory law. Annotations facilitate research.
Searching for oil, gas and energy law cases is easy – search queries can be made from within the area of law page or within the jurisdictional page.
The briefs, pleadings and motions library is an immense time saver. Existing documents provide a starting point for research and help to unearth obscure oil and gas law cases on esoteric issues. They also provide insight into arguments made in fact situations that may be similar to the one that you are researching.
Shepard’s reports are essential not only for cite validation but also for research assistance, leading the researcher to related statutory and case law and treatises.
Related content, which is highlighted on the left navigation panel of every case, provides quick access to the available briefs, pleadings, and motions in the case and also links to analytical content.
“ More Like This Headnote” allows the researcher to utilize the terms within a headnote to search for similar cases in the same or multiple jurisdictions.
By setting up a Shepard’s alert, the researcher can ensure timely notification of additional treatment of a case. Alerts can be delivered on the desired schedule directly to the researcher’s inbox.
