2. “Before taking this class, my „go to‟ search
engine was Google. I now know that doing
just a simple Google search – which wasn‟t
done properly, anyway -- isn‟t the best
course of action to find college level
research.”
3. “After several weeks into the course and a
few good searches under my belt, I realized
better results are achieved through
databases like ProQuest.”
4. “I will still use Google to assist me in finding
general information, but I will continue to try
to use Google Scholar to refine my
searches.”
5. “Learning about scholarly sources, what
makes a scholarly source, and how to use a
database to find these sources has been
awesome.”
6. “I will continue to use Google Scholar in my
life. I have already used it at work when
trying to locate journal articles regarding
specific veterinary disease processes.”
7. “I do some basic research in my job and
being able to find information is a critical
skill. Prior to the course, Google and a
handful of government websites were the
only places I knew to look. Now I have
many more options to find information faster
and of higher quality.”
8. “The biggest thing I learned in the class –
which I think I still need work on – is citing in
APA format.”
9. “I can use these skills for many different
aspects of my life and career. It will help me
immensely for future classes at
Duquesne…. I can also use these skills in
my career because I now know how to find
better peer-reviewed papers that will help
me if I‟m looking for certain information on
topics related to my job.”
10. “I will use these skills when I write policies at
work or papers at school, by making sure
my findings are backed up using scholarly
sources, which will make my work more
credible.”
11. “I have already started using my new search
skills to find information on how to care for
my newborn. My wife was reading an article
in a magazine that matched some
information I found in a scholarly journal
article. Now she has much more confidence
in the advice in the magazine since we were
able to verify it in a medical journal.”
12. “When I start my master‟s program in the
fall, I will be able to properly search for
information and have the knowledge of the
many search applications that are designed
to provide information that can be used in
academic research.”
