2. Cross Country Race - Maihi
Yesterday after lunch Whaea Lesa had to call the roll out
quickly because she thought we were late for cross country and
we all had to meet on the Lockwood steps. But then we didnât
have enough time because the people kept calling out
questions like âIâm nervous!â and stuff like that.
After she finished calling out the roll we had no time, so we had
to line up straight away and when once there, the first class to
run was Mrs Johnstonâs girls.
When the whistle went, it actually wasnât the time to run, you
had to run when the clap went. When the wooden clappers
went the girls went to run and when they ran they were running
so, so fast I didnât know who was in first place. Their course was
to jump over a high jump thing then they had to jump on a big
blue bouncy thing, but it looked like a big blue bouncy bed to
me.
3. After they went over the
big thing, they had to do
zig-zags past the barrels.
They use for top school.
After that they had to run
down the finish line and
then they will be finished
the race.
After the juniors went and
had done their race, it
was our turn to do our
race. When Mr Brebner or
Mr Haimona said âItâs time
for the year 3s to line up
and get ready to race!â
we had to line up by the
starting line and wait for
Matua Brett to clap the
wooden clappers.
When Matua Brett clapped
the wooden clappers, I ran off
and when I got to the road, I
was in first place but when we
got to the crossing I fell asleep
and Rylan overtook me. But at
the road there was Mrs Carter
and Elijah.
When I got past the road, I
was at the bamboo where
my mum was cheering for
me and then we had to
jump over a chain. Then we
had to run up a hill and sprint
across the riverbank where
my brother was going to
squirt us with a hose.
4. While we were running Mr Haimona said something to
Rylan and then we had to walk across the road and run
through a fence and run across the bridge and then we
had to do a lap around the field.
On the field I tried hard out to get past Rylan but then we
were at the finish line. He just beat me. I came 2nd and it
was very cool at cross country because I had a wonderful
day.
5. Cross Country Recount -
Sophie
On Wednesday, Rooms 11, 8, 9, 7, 6, 4 and the Lockwood went to walk to the field
and sit down on the Lockwood stairs and everyone was quiet until they heard a
medium sound. It was Mr Haimona. He was talking to the 8 year olds to go to the
start line.
All of the 8 year olds lined up to the line. We lined up on the line and Matua Brett
was holding the wooden clappers. He said âReadyâŠSetâŠGo!!!â
I tried to run as fast as I could. We went past Mr Burke. We were nearly to the
crossing where Mrs Carter was. Some people were walking and I was walking
because they were saving their energy to run on the concrete.
6. When I was running to these trees, I saw Emma. Emma was running
next to me and we run together. We were nearly to Mr Flynn but Emma
saidâ Sophie I got a stitchâ. I said âitâs ok Emmaâ. When I was on the
river bank I met Stevie-Ray!!! Me and her were running together. I think
we were having a race, Stevie was winning, I was losing. And the winner
wasâŠStevie-Ray. After that I was still running but I havenât stop puffing.
I saw a chair, and I sat on it. I said â3,2,1. Go!!! And I go!!! I got off the
chair, and I carry on running until I was nearly to the finish line and I
came 7th I think, I was happy about it. I was out of the river bank now I
have to walk on the road with Nikki in room 11.
I was walking on the road and I stop on the line on the road. I look lift and right, and I go!!!
7. I looked left and right, and I went!!! I was on the concrete but my feet was sore on the
concrete. I decided to go on the concrete. My feet was better now but something was
wrong and it wasâŠeveryone had to run on the rocks. I said in my head âNOOO!!!â On the
rock part I said âouch, ouch, ouch, OUCH!!!!â When I was on the grass, I said âYES!â But I
saw a big girl and she said âgo this wayâ And I did. I saw Mr Himoana standing behind the
bridge. I was running as fast as I could. I was off the bridge, I was still running but I hadnât
stopped puffing. At the back I sawâŠTe Rina and Joshua. I said at the top of feild âSophie!
Come on Sophie!â But I tried to catch up with Neki and I thinkâŠPuhi.
Everyone had to run next to the college and everyone saw a long straight line. I was
running, running and running. And at the finish line I cameâŠ7th and I was very happy
about it.
All of room 11, 8, 9, 7, 4, 6 and the Lockwood had to go to their classrooms and they
had to clean their rooms and get their bags. They sat on the mat and they get to go
home.
8. We were walking to the van together. But the van wasnât there. âNO!!!!â I
shouted out loud. Here comes the van. I said to the van driver âyouâre lateâ.
And she is funny too. We got in the van, we have to find a seat, get your seat
belt on, here we go to pick up the other kids and then we went to After School
Care.
We are at the After School Care. The van had to park somewhere. We parked
in the mud. But I got holes in my shoes. I had to run on the mud as fast as I
could.
I hung my bag on the hooks but the door was locked. The van driver got the
keys to open the door. The door was open, everyone got in fast as! I said in my
head âeverybody slow down!â Everyone was playing and I was playing with
Shaun at the little shop. Me and Shaun were cleaning up the shop, so some kids
can got a toy and play with it. None of the kids got one. Shaun and I decided to
watch a movie. Itâs got aliens and people in the cool as movie. I was very happy about it.
9. My mum got here. I was running as fast as I could. I did a big, big, BIG one. Mum said âHi
Sophieâ And I said âHi mumâ. Shaun said the same thing. Me and Shaun got our bags, oh and
our shoes too. Mum was talking to the van driver about something likeâŠI donât know what
they were saying.
Mum said âwell we better go homeâ. So we got in the car, mum turned on the car, the car
was on, we drive back home to have dinner. We were at our home. Mum said âget your
bagsâ. And we did. We had dinner and we went to bed.
10. Cross Country Recount - Tamar
Ready! Set! GO! Matua Brett had clapped the
clappers! Away went room 11! Angelina was leading
the way so they donât get lost! The last person was
Max.
When it was the six year old girls, the first person was
one of my best friends Kimiora.
When it was my turn I wasnât really coming first
because last night I did 32 laps around the couch at
my house with my mum, so I pretty much just jogged
the whole way but I ran and walked a couple of
times!
We had to run down to Tanekaha street, down the
river bank, to the crossing cross the road, go down
Rata Ave do one lap around the field and back!
11. On the river bank, we saw a brownish dog! It looked like
my puppies dad âWrinkles! â AnywayâŠ
On my way back I was so close to the finish line, I could
hear my parents yelling and cheering for me! I felt so
proud of myself!
When I was close to the finish line, I started to sprint. I
came just after Puhi. I came 19th! I even saw my
nana, Arliyah and Whaea Joâs baby Awatea!
So after this my mum and I went back to my class, got
all of my belongings had a play on the park and then
we went home!
I canât wait until next year and do it again! In the end I
was so happy! I had an incredible day!
12. I felt really proud of myself because I had a try, and I did
pretty good because I came 19th.
13. Cross Country â Te Ariki
First we had to warm up before we ran.
The little people had to go first, and then middle school
had to go.
We ran toTanekaha road. It took along time to go around
the river bank.
I ran across the new big bridge. My placing was 4th.
14. Cross Country Recount
Te Rina
On Wednesday we had cross country and Matua Brett said to
line up at the start and we began to run.
I ran with Kiani. I was almost coming last but I told Kiani, âwe
are going to run fasterâ and when we got very close to the end,
we could see we were not coming last.
We had to go down Tanekaha Street and that made the cross
country even bigger!
As we got to the end, I had a big breath. We were done with
the race and I was thirsty! As thirsty as a little pig âŠwohoo!
15. Cross Country - Tye
Yesterday in the afternoon we had cross country. It started out like
an ordinary day but when the first race started, everyone started to
cheer loudly. We had to wait a long time for our race on the river
bank .
At the starting line when we heard the clappers, we went out of the
school gates. We went on the street down to the crossing then to
the bamboo.
There was a chain with a padlock that most people leaped over, and
then up on the river bank by the water, past the Retirement village
and right down to the Mural, down a little hill on to the foot path
and to one of the teachers to cross the road.
16. We ran to Walter Ave onto the new bridge and around
the whole field to the finish line.
On the straight bit to the finish line, I tried to overtake
Kaea but he was too fast but I still got to go to
Manawahe âs big cross country event and my placing
was 4th!
I had a great cross country day and I hope we have one
like that next year.
17. Cross Country 30 May 2013 - Haley
Yesterday after lunch, all of the school had cross
country. All of the year 8 children had to run down to
Tanekaha street and up the river bank. Room11 kids
went first, when it was our turn to race, I said to
myself, âI donât want to come last!â
When Matua Brett clapped the clappers, all of the
children had to run. We ran to the crossing. Mrs Carter
was there waiting for us to cross safely. We ran to
Tanekaha street and down to the river bank. I was
walking all to the river bank, we saw the bamboo. I ran
straight down the road because Mr Haimmona was at
Maihiâs house, standing there.
When I finished the race, I came last out of the 8 year
old girls.
18. Our Cross Country Race - Rylan
Yesterday we had cross country and we had to run around
the river bank down the street and around the school field.
I came first, Maihi came second and Kaea came third. Tye
beat Mason before my sister had started to come last but
she came second.
I get to race other teams at Manawehe because I won the
race. We had to go up hills and down hills.
When Matua Brett clapped the clappers, all the little kids
went but we had to stay there and wait a while until our
names were called out.
I ran really fast and came in the first group for the Year 3
boys!
