Jason Masciarelli is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Acromobile, responsible for creating the Acromobile Customer Engagement Solution
and its related Acromobile Customer Engagement Platform. Jason works closely with clients and partners to create solutions that help improve sales,
marketing and customer support processes. Having been a part of the evolution of CRM and marketing automation, Jason understands how companies
can leverage emerging technologies, trends and industry best practices to create innovative business models and solutions. Prior to Acromobile, Jason successfully
founded and ran Theikos Inc., the first global Cloud Computing consulting and outsourcing company. Jason sold Theikos after seven years of consistent growth
to Astadia, and then held a position with Astadia in Singapore to build their APAC business. Jason has also worked with BigMachines, Powerskills Solutions and
3Com in the past. Jason holds a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Bryant College. His interests include emerging technologies, traveling and photography.
Mobile Money has been an unprecedented success in some African
markets; the equivalent of 43% of Kenya’s GDP flowed through mobile
wallets last year and 5% – 10% of some Mobile Operators’ revenues
are generated from the service. Yet, despite the mobile industry’s
near-obsession with Kenya’s mPesa, just a handful of the over 100
Mobile Money implementations on the continent have achieved any
real level of adoption. This is mostly owing to the chicken-and-egg
dilemma of how to simultaneously generate traction on both the
supply (agent network) and demand (consumer) sides of the business.
Mobile Financial Services providers have often looked to the Kenyan
experience for a handy replication model, only to find it lacking in
relevance for their markets.
This workshop will distil learning from the African markets where
Mobile Money has been a tougher nut to crack. It will look beyond
the East African mega-success story to grittier horizons such as Ghana,
Nigeria and Mozambique. Here, most mobile wallet providers initially
struggled to create parallel agent and customer uptake and so suffered
cretaceous growth. However, by making drastic strategic and tactical
changes, some operators have been able to emerge on a steady path
to business health. Together we will investigate the often counter
intuitive measures that have turned these businesses around and
consider how these experiences may be relevant in other markets.

Bitcoins are fundamentally different as all data required to create
transactions are safely stored in wallets when the payment is sent.
That eliminates all insurance costs and charge-backs. The openness
of the protocol then allows competition to rise and to keep prices
down, but also to bring valuable solutions. Bitcoin payments have
gained popularity in the west with benefits ranging from low costs
to easy set ups as well as reduced fraud and charge back risks. This
workshop gives you a head start on the Bitcoin economy, retailers
and consumers awareness and acceptance in Asia as well as how to
set up Bitcoins as a method of payment.

Tomas Forgac has a career background in finance and retail IT. He has been promoting, writing about, speaking publicly on local and international media
about Bitcoin since early 2013 and started Coin Of Sale under a different name in July 2013.
ABOUT YOUR WORKSHOP LEADER
Jessica has over six years experience in mobile technology in Africa. She co-led the start-up Africa’s first mobile application incubator in Uganda, AppLab,
with partners Google, MTN and Grameen Foundation. She led the development of apps in the Google SMS product suite, including mobile health and
mobile trading services, which were subsequently rolled out to other African markets. In Ghana, Jessica started Grameen Foundation’s first overseas
office and served as Project Director for the Mobile Technology for Community Health (MOTECH) program which worked with the Ministry of Health to digitize
data collection in rural health facilities through a mobile application feeding into the country’s existing Health Management Information System. The project
also developed a messaging system to deliver appointment reminders and weekly tailored health messages to antenatal and neonatal clients. Jessica then went
on to manage Tigo’s Mobile Money product, Tigo Cash, and was a key member of the team that made the company the market leader for Mobile Financial
Services in Ghana. She led efforts in marketing, customer lifecycle management, special offer design, pricing, product development, operations, customer service
and regulatory compliance. Jessica joined Arrakis Group in June 2013 to create and manage our Telecommunications division, which has conducted several
projects in mobile financial services and mobile insurance in Ghana, Nigeria and Mozambique. Jessica holds a First Class Honors degree in Politics & Economics
from the University of Durham, UK.

Mobile Money has been an unprecedented success in some African markets; the equivalent of 43% of Kenya’s GDP flowed through mobile wallets last year and 5% – 10% of some Mobile Operators’ revenues are generated from the service. Yet, despite the mobile industry’s near-obsession with Kenya’s mPesa, just a handful of the over 100 Mobile Money implementations on the continent have achieved any real level of adoption. This is mostly owing to the chicken-and-egg dilemma of how to simultaneously generate traction on both the supply (agent network) and demand (consumer) sides of the business. Mobile Financial Services providers have often looked to the Kenyan experience for a handy replication model, only to find it lacking in relevance for their markets. This workshop will distil learning from the African markets where Mobile Money has been a tougher nut to crack. It will look beyond the East African mega-success story to grittier horizons such as Ghana, Nigeria and Mozambique. Here, most mobile wallet providers initially struggled to create parallel agent and customer uptake and so suffered cretaceous growth.
