7. Validating the Assumption
Although the unemployment rate in the Big Apple
remains over 9 percent — roughly double what’s
considered healthy — the demand for programmers
and engineers to work in the city’s burgeoning
internet startup scene is stronger than it’s been in a
decade.
As the economy slowly pulls out of first gear, one
sector that is clearly in fifth gear is IT. From Silicon
Valley to Detroit to New York, a war for tech talent is
now being played out as companies struggle to find –
and hold on to – skilled engineers and developers.
