2. Fueled By Ramen
• Fueled by Ramen is a subsidiary of Warner Music Group
and is distributed by Atlantic Records. It’s quite a major
record label that specialises in alternative pop music and
features many popular bands such as Paramore, Fall Out
Boy, Panic! At the Disco and Jimmy Eat World.
• The label was founded by John Janick and Vinnie Fiorello,
members of the band Less Then Jake, in
1996.
• Their aims were to get the
independent rock/alternative music
out to the masses, although they
also work with a lot of pop genres of
music.
3. Promotional campaigns
Fueled By Ramen
promote their label and
bands by using street
teams. This involves
members of the public
joining the street team
and completing acts such
as handing out
promotional material.
By joining the street
team, members of the
public can take part in
exclusive contests (and
others listed on the
image on the right), and
as Fueled by Ramen is a
big record label, the
public fans would like this
opportunity.
They also promote themselves/their bands by running
competitions or taking interviews at popular events.
4. Standby Records
• Standby Records are an independent record label that specialises in
the rock/metal genre, specifically targeting bands. (A successful one
including Black Veil Brides).
• Nick Moore started Standby Records in Toledo (Ohio) and had a few
bands signed in 2007, however, as he was in a band himself (Before
Their Eyes) he was unable to give his full attention to the label. Neil
Sheehan (the current CEO of Standby) then bought the record label
in mid 2007.
• The band I will be working with for my own music video and digipak
(The Nearly Deads) is signed to this record label.
• The aims of Standby are primarily to “bring back rock N’ roll”, new
and improved. They’re seeking out modern bands with a different
take on ‘Rock N’ Roll’ and they’re calling the
grouping of this genre “Rock N’ Roll 2.0”.
5. Promotional Campaigns
Standby Records also has a street team which they’re calling the revolution. Members
complete the same tasks as Fueled By Ramen; handing out promotional material, etc.
However, members of the Standby Army don’t get any exclusive material like Fueled By
Ramen.
6. Street Teams
Although both record labels have street teams, Fueled by
Ramen, the bigger record label, has a larger and more organised
street team. Standby Records has a street team that does the
minimal; handing out promotional material on the streets.
Fueled by Ramen has a section on their website dedicated to
their street team with a list of missions, including sharing
YouTube videos related to the label or bands.
