2. Themes
Marketing Meat Loaf consists of a range of themes. It
displays the music industry, marketing, media influence
and competition between the old and young.
4. Camerawork
For the majority of the interviews included within the documentary,
a mid shot is used. However, unconventionally a profile shot is used
during one interview. Also, a point of view is used to include the
audience and make them feel as though they are too witnessing
what the camera is. Long shots are used to establish the setting
whilst low angles are also used during panning. Whilst the crowds
outside are shown, the camera is handheld. Also rule of thirds and
zooming out are used throughout.
5. Mise-en-scene
Camera crews and cameras are featured a lot throughout the
documentary to reinforce the themes of the media and the
industry. The magazines used also reinforce the industry, keeping
the topic relevant.
6. Sound
Upbeat music is used at the beginning when different
genres of music and different people in the industry are
being introduced. There is a narrator throughout who
uses Standard English and unconventionally appears
opinionated and sarcastic at times. Meat Loafs music is
played and there is a heartbeat featured. Also, music
from Meat Loafs oppositions at the time is
played, âYMCA- Village Peopleâ.
7. Editing
The editing used throughout the documentary consists
of the screen peal used on the title, slow motion, cuts,
dissolves after interviews, spin on images, montage
technique and chromakey.
8. Archive material
The archive material within the documentary included
video clips, interviews, Meat Loafs âBeauty and the Beastâ
themed music video, shows announcing Meat Loafs
return, YMCA music video and newspaper articles.
9. Graphics
The graphics used are in clear, san serif font. When we
see them during the credits however they are
unconventional due to travelling from the left to the
right.
