This document discusses different types of institutions that might distribute a media product, including large production companies like Warner Brothers and Universal Studios, and smaller independent companies like See-Saw Films and Bedlam Productions. Large companies have bigger budgets to fund major films and market them through various distribution channels, while smaller independents have more limited budgets and typically distribute smaller, less widely known films. Of the options presented, an independent but established company like See-Saw Films would be most likely to distribute the author's film, as it has experience producing similar genres of films despite its smaller size and budget.

involved institutions or small independent
institutions

companies, which is branching out to join
with various Hollywood studios
• Based in London
• Founded in 1983
• Though it was originally much smaller and
so had a smaller budget to work with more
independent films, it has since been involved
in the production of Love Actually and Les
Miserables
13. Independent film
production
• Independent film production companies have a much smaller budget, as they
are not backed by big companies like Universal Studios etc.
• Without big funding, only small films can be made, which do not attract a
large audience
• It is not affordable for these companies to distribute by large new media
methods, such as ITunes and on BluRay etc. as a their small budget does not
make room for this, therefore the film isn’t seen widely
• As the film does not have a big audience, not as much money is made, so the
companies stay small budgeted
14. Large film production
• These companies have large budgets to
start, so can buy shares in large production
value films
• They can put money into varying methods
of distribution, including DVDs, BluRay,
merchandise and even ITunes
• As the film is more widely seen because of
the value of distribution and marketing, the
film makes a large profit, and the production
companies make a large profit
15. Who would distribute
my film?
• A small, independent production company
• My films production cost is not high
• The film would not be well known or easily
seen by companies, as it is not being
created by a big director, so it would not
create a big profit
• A small, independent production company
would attract some attention, however.
16. Who would distribute
my film?
• See-Saw films
• Though they have a small budget, and are an
independent film company, they were
involved in The King’s Speech, and so have
more recognition than a lot of independent
film companies
• Has been involved in the production of
similar/close genre films to my film so has
experience in this area of film
