2. Primary and Secondary
audiences
Our primary target audience are 15-25 year olds
of all races and genders. This is because from
research, we found that this is the average age
of horror/thriller fans. However, we feel that we
will appeal to a wider audience; therefore our
secondary target audience ranges from 18-30
year olds. Our film would either be classified
as a 15 certificate, making it accessible by our
primary and secondary target audiences. We
are also targeting all genders as we have
found that women and men both enjoy
horror/thrillers and this furthermore widens
our audience.

The kind of audience we want to attract is
people who have a taste for horror
films. These are the sort of people who
want to explore their fears and
challenge their minds and these types
of people will most enjoy our film as
our film is a psychological horror.
4. Social groups
We feel that there are two main social groupings which our
production would appeal to, these are:
Contented conformers -
These are people who want to be 'normal', so therefore follow
the herd, accepting of their circumstances, they are contented
and comfortable in the security of their own making. The
contented conformers
Innovators -These are people who are self-confident risk-
takers, and who are seeking new and different things, as well
as setting their own targets to achieve.
We feel these types of people would find our production
appealing because there is a sense of risk, therefore appealing
to innovators. In addition the use of being filmed in a home
shows that the young boy leads a „normal‟ life for the audience
to relate to.

Since horrors and thrillers appeal to mainstream
audiences, “Torment” would be profitable.
Our main theme, being tormented
by an unknown being, is not used
often in horrors and thrillers, thus
giving it a unique selling point
(USP). When researching other
films that are similar to torment, we
couldn‟t find any with a story line
similar to our own. We looked at
Activity, so that we could see how they handled threeperceived especially
and in depth, a
psychological horror. Our film is also unique and easy Paranormal
for our audience to
relate to due to the story line of not sending on chain messages. We want our
reach to be as wide as possible, starting with local distribution, then national,
and finally international. Our film‟s appeal is similar to “Paranormal Activity”
because it is more genre targeted rather than age targeted. According to the
figures in this table, we are targeting 24.4% of film-watchers.
6. Social Grading
We think our horror opening would range from C1, C2 and D on
the social grading. These people would ordinarily be from the
mainstream category therefore are people who tend to conform
to the majority. We feel that these types of people are more
likely to relate to the characters and have the ability to form a
relationship with them therefore making it more realistic which
would furthermore enhance the fear factor.
C1 Supervisory or clerical junior. Lower Junior manager, student, office
middle class. workers, supervisors.
C2 Skilled manual workers. Foreman, agricultural worker, plumber,
