This document summarizes the context and outcomes of an Ofsted inspection that placed a school into special measures, and outlines the monitoring process going forward. The school received grades of 4 for leadership, teaching, achievement, and overall effectiveness, and a grade of 3 for behavior and safety. It was advised not to appoint new teachers. Future monitoring visits will focus on leadership, teaching, the sixth form, pupil premium spending, governance, and progress on the school's action plan. The lead inspector will oversee up to 6 visits in 24 months to determine if the school is taking effective action to be removed from special measures.

– Relationship between HT and Lead HMI crucial
• Not advisory, but very close working relationship
• Plus an HMI and an OI (this time)
• Two days (this time)
• Can be up to 6 visits over next 24 months
• What then?
7. What are they looking for?
• Effective action
• Only two judgements:
– Are/ Are not taking effective action towards the
removal of special measures
• Not looking at all areas at once:
– “Not as full on as Section 5”
– If good, probably won’t be looked at next time
– Evidence accumulates
• Leadership & management

judgement might be “good”, converted to S5
• Not likely to remove special measures until it is
looking “good”
