PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Brian McEvoy, President
Recognition—Thank You!
Just a few weeks ago my family—grandparents to grand-
children—spent another wonderful week at Laguna Surf,
LAGUNA SURF
where we enjoyed not only the wonderful weather and
beautiful Pacific, but also the warm welcome and smiling
service of Ramiro and his staff.
We are very fortunate to have a very dedicated and
loyal staff, many of whom have been here almost from
the beginning and are very familiar with the resort and
the needs of our owners. I encourage you to learn their
names, get to know them, and show them you
appreciate their work.
Reservations – Getting Better?
As many of you know, making reservations for that wonderful week at Laguna Surf can be very trying, particularly if
you want an Ocean View unit during one of the high-demand weeks. Our thanks to the two committees who
worked hard for more than a year on reservations -- we’re beginning to see some very encouraging results. See the
reports below.
Representation – Vote, Vote, Vote!
Each year at the Annual Meeting we elect two or three owners to serve one the Board of Directors, but our govern-
ing documents require that a certain minimum number of owners vote in the election. So we need you to send in
your vote, even if you don’t attend the Annual Meeting. See below for details – and then VOTE!
Brian McEvoy, President, Board of Directors, Laguna Surf Interval Owners Association
RESERVATIONS
Surf Day – Phone Reservations
This year, after much work by our Surf Day Phone Committee, we used a new phone system for Surf Day reserva-
tions. The system worked quite well until about 11:00 am, when the phone company (not the system) began drop-
ping calls that had been on hold for four hours. (It seems that a phone line that is ―inactive‖ for four hours will be
flushed and reactivated by the carrier.) Virtually all owners who were dropped got back in the queue later and
were able to make their reservations, but it was very frustrating to wait so long and then lose your place. Overall,
we think we have a system that can meet our needs, but we need to take steps to reduce the queue length so that
no one can be on hold that long. The Committee will continue to work on this issue.
Laguna Season Walk-in Courtesy
For some time, the Reservations Committee has been dealing with the problems caused when people line up at the
Resort to make walk-in reservations for the high-demand months of Laguna Season. The basic rule is to observe the
guidelines posted before each trigger day and to be considerate of other owners – see the report below from Bob
Pizzorno, Board member and Committee chair.
ELECTIONS AND ANNUAL MEETING
Vote Vote Vote!
The election of board members will be held at our Annual Meeting in September. Ballots will be mailed to you well
before then. PLEASE complete and mail in your ballots! Our By-Laws require a certain minumum of votes before
we can conduct this meeting, and it is often touch-and-go as to whether or not we will have the required quorum.
(If we don’t, we will have to cancel the meeting and incur the cost of a second mailing.) So, VOTE, VOTE , VOTE!

ENJOYING YOUR STAY
Many Positive Comments on Refurbishment!
Your Board is pleased to have received so many glowing comments on our recently completed refurbishment. If you have not seen
the new look yet, see your preview on our web page at www.LagunaSurf.org
Dining Out?
Here are some more tips on good local restaurants, Look for the opening of Asada this summer or fall (on the site of the former
Javier’s) -- Fine Mexican Cuisine | Prime Steaks | Festive Tequila Bar. Café 230 on Forest Ave is always a good bet (try their seared
ahi sandwich). The weekday full brunch at Las Brisas is a great value and offers a lovely view (call early for reservations). We hear
that meals next door at the Cliff restaurant in Laguna Village are good and the view is incredible (of course!). Our long-time favorite
is cocktails and appetizers on The Terrace at Hotel Laguna. And don’t miss 2-for-1 hamburgers on Tuesdays at Hennessey’s! Finally,
one of our favorites, Sorrento, is changing names, but I am told the chef bought the place, so it is likely to remain pretty much un-
changed. If you have any favorites we should feature, please email me and I will cover it in the next newsletter. You can find 70
restaurants with their addresses, phone numbers and links to their menus online at: http://www.lagunabeachinfo.com/foodies/dining-
out/. We also have a comprehensive menu book in the office. Bon Appetit!
Using the Television
We have provided a laminated alphabetical channel listing for your convenience. If you cannot find it contact the Front Desk. Also,
if you get a TV guide in the Sunday newspaper, please leave it on the coffee table when you depart on Friday.
Manager’s Meetings (Reminder)
While you’re at the Resort, remember to join the manager and other owners at the Manager’s Meeting on Tuesday at 10:30. These
meetings are always quite interesting and you can learn and share your timesharing experiences with fellow owners and guests.
Donuts and coffee are served.
Things to Do In and Around Laguna

(good lunch at Newport Landing on the Newport peninsula)
Pacific Marine Mammal Center, Laguna –Another one the kids love
Bluebird Park, Laguna Beach – Great for the kids and grandkids
Heisler Park, Laguna– Wonderful walk along the shoreline north of Main Beach
Laguna Beach Theater, Laguna Beach

Tennis Anyone?
Remember that there are great courts up at Laguna Beach High School; no charge. To find a partner, just leave your name and phone
number or unit number at the Front Desk. Of course, add tennis gear to your packing list! There is also a local web service for locating
partners: www.40-lovetennis.com. On the ―Find Partners‖ tab you can add your name to the list. It takes a week or so to get posted,
so do so before you leave for Laguna.
Wyndham Reservations Changes – Repeat Reminder
The Wyndham Reservations (Owner Services) office is now located in Springfield, MO. The telephone line, (800) 647-8001, is open
from 5 AM to 5 PM, Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. They are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
BUYING AND SELLING LAGUNA SURF INTERVALS
Buy Another Week! Sales Continue – with a Bonus Week included!
Did you know that when you buy a week of Laguna Surf from the Association that the money goes straight into our budget and helps
keep our annual fee increases low? Laguna Season intervals are being sold by the Association for a mere $5,200. And anyone who
buys a week will also receive a free one-week stay in January-March 2012. The value of this bonus week is, of co rse, $628, Contact
Tim Scheck via email at tscheck1@mac.com or call him at (818) 203-0362, or both.
Renting or Buying from an Owner!
The Front Desk maintains a listing of intervals both for rent and for sale by private owners. The listings are posted outside the office
and also on our website. To add a listing, or request a current copy, email LagunaSurfFrontDesk@wyn.com. Prices are set by the own-
ers; the Front Desk and the Association are not involved in these transactions.

BUYING AND SELLING LAGUNA SURF INTERVALS
Timeshare Buyback/Sale Schemes/Scams (REPEAT ALERT)
In this economy, there are lots of disreputable businessess out there trying to take advantage of timeshare owners who want to sell
their intervals. They are in business to make money, and not necessarily to help you. Our owners have continued success selling their
intervals by simply posting them on the ―For Sale‖ listing maintained by our Front Desk. Simply call (949) 497-6299, or email La-
gunaSurfFrontDesk@wyn.com and give them your information. Interested buyers will call you and you can arrange the sale. BUT,
never pay money up front to anyone who offers to try to sell your interval for you.
COMMITTEES
In recent years, a great deal of the work to run Laguna Surf is being done by committtees. Each committee musts be chaired by a
Board member, but any owner may be a member of a committee. Contact the committee chair if you are willing to participate in the
work of a committee.
Facilities – (Chair: Tim Scheck) This committee coordinated the recent refurbishment of the units, and continues to oversee the ongo-
ing condition of our resort’s facilities.
Web – (Chair: Brian McEvoy) The web committee needs members! We’d like to enable owners to post their own notices of intervals
for sale or rent, refresh the lagunasurf.org site, enhance our Facebook page.
Reservations – (Chair: Bob Pizzorno) The Reservations Committee has been meeting frequently via telephone during the past year
and is hoping that this work will result in a better reservations experience. They are working on both Surf and Laguna season reserva-
tions processes.
Reservations Committee – Summary Report
Walk-In Queue for Laguna Season Trigger Dates: To help manage the line that forms outside the resort a day or more before Tridder
Days in May/June and August/September (high demand months for laguna Season), the Committee created and the Board approved
a sign to clarify the Walk-In procedures for Laguna Season Trigger Dates. It is now placed on the Office door whenever a walk-in line
is expected. The Board also approved a Committee recommendation that all owners and guests residing at Laguna Surf during a
week that includes a high-demand Trigger Date, be notified of this fact in the "Weekly Events" handout that is given at check-in.
Ownership of Multiple Units
To make the reservation procedures consistent for all reservation queues (Walk-In, Phone-In, and Write-In for Laguna Season and for
Surf Season), the Committee proposed and the Board approved that owners of multiple intervals could make a second reservation in
any queue by simply waiting for one rotation of the other two queues. The rationale for allowing a second reservation, after one
rotation, is to allow owners to reserve two units for the same week or to reserve two consecutive weeks in the same unit (Surf Season
only). This is considered an accommodation and not a right.
Surf Day Reservation Queues
in preparation for Surf Day 2012 (Trigger Date for all 11 weeks of the 2012 Surf Season), the Committee addressed many concerns.
Four proposals were approved by the Board and included in the Surf Day mailing to Surf Season owners
