Hi my name is LaTonya Stemley. I am looking to jump start my career and am hoping
your company is in a position to invest in me as a member of your team. I am diligent,
motivated, energetic and a great team member. I received a B.S. in Biology from Southern
University at New Orleans. Upon graduation I worked as an instructor for a local college in New
Orleans that allowed me to educate other individuals in various areas of science. This position
developed me as an advisor and mentor to the students I encountered. As a leader to individuals
of multiple cultures, personalities and ethnicities I encouraged team building, critical and
strategic thinking as well as a healthy learning environment. I am a problem solver and a
people’s person. Undergraduate molded an individual of distinct character. I am able to speak
amongst an audience due to the various competitions we’ve enrolled and placed in. I am a
scientist by degree and experience thanks to the FaST team. We’ve researched the ecological
effects of the Peconic River in New York in conjunction with Brookhaven National Lab (BNL).
Our team collected water (my specialty) and sediments of the river, analyzed those samples,
wrote a published article as well as presented the information during poster and oral
presentations for the community, its leaders and the scientists of BNL. I am passionate about
science. I loved being amongst nature in the woods collecting it and I love teaching it!
I completed the Master’s Program with Dowling College on Long Island New York in
Environmental Microbiology. I have partaken in research at Dowling College which introduced
me to various procedures such as plating (streak, dilution), staining, quantification (MPN, plate
count) filtrations, cloning, electrophoresis and dilutions to name a few scientific methods I’m
familiar with. I am looking for a career; someplace I can invest and improve. If given the
opportunity, I can be an asset to your company. I’ll work hard at any position. I am willing and
open to relocate, if the opportunity presents itself. I have attached a resume with the relevant
job history for this position; upon request a full resume can be supplied. I would greatly
appreciate an interview with your office. I’m not opposed to phone interviews, Skype interviews
or traveling for an interview. Feel free to contact me at any time. If for any reason you are
unable to reach me through the phone number provided, I can be contacted by email and I will
reply in a timely manner.
Thank You Sincerely,
LaTonya Stemley
